1. Evolution and overview
Pushou Temple is located at the southern end of Dongzhuang Village, Taihuai Town, Wutaishan City, Shanxi Province, and is the center of the northeast area of Taihuai Town. It is located in the embrace of five peaks, with the top of the North Platform in the north and the Great White Pagoda in the south. Looking down from the top of Bodhisattva, it looks like a lotus with the charm of Buddhist Dojo. When the weather is fine, climb the second floor of the bell and drum and overlook the mountains and rivers. The scene is spectacular.
Wutaishan Dojo was once a part of Dahua Rock Temple in its heyday. Later, Dahua Rock Temple was renamed Daxiantong Temple, and the Dojo gradually declined. Daxiantong Temple was divided into several small temples, including Pushou Temple. During the Cultural Revolution, the temple was occupied by the commune hospital, and the Buddha statues in the temple were completely destroyed. Nie Tongyuan, a famous contemporary master of Wutai Mountain, applied for the restoration and reconstruction of Pushou Temple many times before his death and founded Wutai Mountain Celebrity Buddhist College, but all failed. 199 1 year, after the death of the old master, his disciples, Master Rui and others, inherited the wishes of their predecessors, started from scratch on the ruins of the original temple, and made great efforts to operate it on the principle of paying equal attention to building the temple and running the school. After more than ten years' development and construction, Pushou Temple has become the largest outstanding Buddhist college in China, which integrates practice Dojo and Buddhist education.
The overall architectural pattern of Pushou Temple is divided into East House and Westinghouse, with a total area of 48 mu, about 32,000 square meters. The West Courtyard, also known as the Inner Courtyard, was the former site of Pushou Temple before its expansion. The temple system is self-contained, and it is a small temple in itself. The East Courtyard is the main building of Pushou Temple. After years of construction, it has begun to take shape.
The Illuminati of Pushou Temple in Wutai Mountain was founded in 1992. 1998, approved by the Chinese Buddhist Association, the college is affiliated to China Buddhist College and renamed as "Wutaishan Luminous Buddhist College of China Buddhist College". The college covers an area of 7600 square meters, with the construction area of teaching, scientific research and living facilities 10000 square meters. There are classrooms, libraries, reading rooms, Tibetan classrooms, Ruyi therapy (which can provide Chinese and western medical services), sewing rooms, supply rooms, recording rooms, computer rooms, viewing halls, monk dormitories, etc., which can accommodate hundreds of monks and nuns to study and live.

1. Research purpose and plan
Our college has inherited the purpose of studying advocated by Master Shang Tong and Master Xia Yong all their lives: taking Hua Yan as the Sect, abiding by the precepts and returning to the pure land. According to this purpose, the three main learning projects are:
Learn dignity, don't insult monks, turn over a new leaf, and prove Bodhi early.
After reading the Dajue Sutra, I vowed to do all the Buddhist things.
Learn to succeed, learn to be self-interested, learn to be altruistic, learn to be self-sufficient, and learn to be self-sufficient.
2. Education policy and purpose
The educational policy of Buddhist College is to spread Buddhism, cultivate patriotic monks, strictly observe Taoist precepts, develop Buddhist culture, integrate learning with practice, and survive in the jungle.
The purpose of education is to cultivate monks who have both ability and political integrity, pay equal attention to Buddhism and serve the society. Buddhist college not only teaches Buddhist cultural knowledge, but also pays more attention to the study and cultivation of Nigerians in Buddhist groups. Through the education mode of paying equal attention to learning and training, monks with basic Buddhist rites and Buddhist styles and monks as abbots are trained.
3. Education system
With the guiding ideology of "learning and training are integrated, monks are born in the jungle", by inheriting the teachings of Han jungle and absorbing the essence of modern education system, traditional jungle education and modern academy education are integrated into one, forming a modern Buddhist education system with jungle as the main body, jungle and academy running in parallel, temples being managed in a unified way, and abbots and academies having their own division of labor and cooperation. As a modern Buddhist college, monks study various courses according to the training plan; At the same time, as a ten-square jungle, the public must abide by the precepts, such as morning bell and evening drum, morning and evening classes, chanting in class, saying precepts for half a month, enjoying themselves .................................................................................................................
4. Organizational structure and management system
Our college implements the management system of combining the academic affairs office with the academic affairs office, and under the leadership of the dean, supervisor, temple Committee and advisory group, each carries out his own duties.
The temple consists of eight management departments: logistics, guest hall, architecture, finance, law, etiquette, canon and Thanksgiving Garden. The college consists of five teaching departments: abstinence department, law research department, huayan department, pure land department and guangxue department. Each department has 2-3 responsible persons who are respectively responsible for temple affairs, permanent residence, hospital affairs, teaching and practice. The deacons in the temple have a clear division of labor, clear responsibilities, and close cooperation.
Since its establishment, the temple has formulated a series of rules and regulations based on the Regulations on People's Life, including the Regulations on Students, the Regulations on Ethnic Minorities, the Regulations on Main Hall, guanyin temple and Lecture Hall, and the Regulations on Guest Hall, Daliao, Ruyiliao and Public and Private Warehouse. In addition to precepts, monks must consciously abide by other statutes. The masses lead an organized, disciplined, moral, honest and harmonious life among monks, and initially form an effective management system.
5. Educational items, educational system and teaching contents
The educational projects in our college mainly include: minority classes, preparatory classes, housing training classes, professional classes, amateur classes, ordinary classes, intermediate classes, advanced classes and research classes. All Nigerians who come to study in the temple must first complete six years of public education in the rehabilitation department, and after passing the examination, they can choose the method suitable for their roots and enter other teaching departments to study and practice.
Abstinence is in charge of basic education. After six years of abstinence, you can learn more professional knowledge such as classics. Abstinence department usually takes the traditional open class as the main teaching form, which is discussed by each class after class and repeated by students. Each grade offers different courses according to the syllabus. Starting from the summer training class, mainly through three months of study, young Buddhist monks who have become monks all over the country can enter the Buddhist monasteries for formal education after roughly mastering the specific contents of the precepts. The academic system of ordinary classes, intermediate classes and advanced classes is two years each, and the main courses are the Bhikuni precept, Random karma, Four Divisions (60 volumes) and Nanshan Sanbu (80 volumes). In addition, daily teaching also pays attention to solving problems and practicing, so as to apply what you have learned.
Preparatory classes and lay classes should mainly understand the basic knowledge of Buddhism; Minority classes, including Shamini class and Shifani class, mainly study Shamini Ten Commandments and Shifani Three Laws.
6. Qualifications, sources and admission methods of learning monks
Monk source is mainly composed of two parts. Most of them are young monks with a certain degree from all provinces and cities in China, and there are also a few foreign monks. After registration, written examination, interview and other assessment links, those with excellent results enter the training class; Monks can graduate after three months of life and study, and those who are excellent in character and learning will be admitted as formal students and join the ring department. Due to the long study time of abstinence, which lasts for six years, there are not many monks who can really complete the advanced class of abstinence. Most of the students graduated from ordinary classes and intermediate classes. These monks are appointed monks.
The other part comes from a few. Follow the Buddha's special request to Zhong Ni, that is, you must study and practice for two years before you can get the precepts and truly complete the essence of the two Buddhist precepts. Therefore, the college also attaches great importance to the cultivation and education from small to large. A small number of monks with junior high school education or above can study and exercise in a clean class for one year. They will study in Chamini class for one year and then in Chamini class for two years after they pass all the exams and lose their hair formally. After the purification of the six methods of Chani, you can accept two Buddhist commandments and formally enter the precept department.
7. Teaching facilities
The college has complete teaching and living facilities, such as classrooms, libraries, reading rooms, Tibetan classrooms, viewing halls and monasteries. As a modern Buddhist college, monks should be able to make full use of and master the basic tools of the information age. Our college has a well-equipped computer room, equipped with printers, copiers, all-in-one machines, cameras, televisions, video recorders and other complete sets of electrical appliances to provide information and digital services for daily teaching and management. A recording studio equipped with multiple single and double recorders, VCD and MD machines can provide modern audio-visual teaching means and teaching materials for monks. In order to facilitate the study and life of monks, various supporting facilities in the hospital are also complete: the supply room is prepared by monks themselves and is responsible for providing daily necessities needed by monks; Ruyi therapy can provide a variety of medical and health care services such as Chinese and western medicine. All these make monks feel comfortable physically and mentally and grow up academically.
8. School performance
1992, Pushou Temple began to hold training courses. Later, according to students' learning needs, two-year regular classes, intermediate classes and advanced classes were set up successively, which attracted Zhong Ni temples all over the country and at home and abroad to study. By the end of 2008, the college had held 65,438+07 training courses and housing courses (lasting for three months), and trained 2,435 people from Nepal. Students are located in 28 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions. At the same time, it also trained 166 people from Taiwan Province province, Hongkong, Japanese, Singaporean, Malaysian, Canadian and Korean.
4 "3+1"project
Since 2005, according to the new requirements for Sangha education in the new era and based on the actual situation of Pushou Temple, we have planned the "three plus one" Sangha education project: "three" refers to Pushou Temple, Dacheng Temple and Bodhi Love Society; "One" refers to a public welfare undertaking of the Love Association-Qingtai Pension Park. The overall framework of this project is: Pushou Temple in Wutai Mountain-a monastery base; Yuci Dacheng Temple (lower house of Pushou Temple)-an educational base; Bodhi Love Society-the base for promoting Buddhism; Qing Tai 'an Garden is a charity undertaking (nursing home) undertaken by Love Association.
