Technical requirements of medium and heavy plate for plasma cutting machine

(1) cutting current? It is the most important cutting process parameter, which directly determines the cutting thickness and speed, that is, cutting ability. With the increase of cutting current, arc energy, cutting ability, cutting speed, arc diameter and arc coarsening, the incision becomes wider. However, the excessive cutting current increases the thermal load of the nozzle, damages the nozzle prematurely, naturally reduces the cutting quality, and even fails to cut normally. Therefore, before cutting the medium plate, the cutting current and the corresponding nozzle should be correctly selected according to the thickness of the material.

(2) Cutting speed? The optimum cutting speed can be selected according to the equipment manual or determined by experiments. Cutting speed is generally determined by thickness, material, melting point, thermal conductivity and surface tension after melting. In practice, the cutting speed is generally determined by the drag line after cutting (see Figure 2), and moderately increasing the cutting speed can improve the incision quality. Therefore, good cutting quality and cutting speed are inseparable.

(3) Arc voltage It is generally considered that the normal output voltage of power supply is the cutting voltage. Plasma arc cutting machine usually has high no-load voltage and working voltage. When the current is constant, the increase of voltage means the improvement of arc enthalpy and cutting ability. (4) Working gas and flow working gas include cutting gas and auxiliary gas. Generally, the appropriate working gas should be selected according to the type, thickness and cutting method of cutting materials. Cutting gas should not only ensure the formation of plasma jet, but also ensure the removal of molten metal and oxide in the incision, so the gas flow must be well matched with cutting current and cutting speed. At present, most plasma cutting machines rely on air pressure to control the flow, because under the condition that the aperture of the gun body is fixed, controlling air pressure also controls the flow. The gas pressure for cutting a certain thickness of material is usually selected according to the data recommended by the equipment manufacturer.

(5) Cutting power density In order to obtain high compressibility plasma cutting arc, the cutting nozzles all adopt smaller nozzle aperture and longer channel length and enhance the cooling effect, which can increase the current passing through the effective section of the nozzle, that is, increase the power density of the arc, thus improving the cutting effect.
