Sun Tzu's artistic course
198 1- 1985 During his study in China Academy of Fine Arts, Sun Ren conducted a comprehensive and systematic study and training on painting, sculpture and design, devoted himself to the study of art history and art theory, and diligently practiced various art forms. He traveled all over China to investigate and study China's traditional culture and art; Developed a good artistic accomplishment. China Academy of Fine Arts (formerly Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts), formerly the National Academy of Fine Arts founded by Mr. Cai Yuanpei, is the oldest fine arts school in China. In the 80-year history, the college has trained many outstanding artistic talents and masters. As a key art college directly under the Ministry of Culture of China, it enjoys a high academic reputation at home and abroad, attracting artists from all over the world to give lectures and exchange art, forming a diversified and cutting-edge academic atmosphere, and its academic influence radiates across the country and overseas. During the four years of further study,

Under the guidance of many art education elites and masters, he broadened his artistic vision, enlightened his artistic spirituality and laid the foundation for his future artistic creation. He got excellent grades and won the title of excellent student and scholarship every year.

Sun Ren's artistic creation has been more than 20 years. The first stage was from 1983, when he created owls 100 to 1994, when he was a student and teacher in China Academy of Fine Arts. The second stage is from the end of 65438 to the end of 0994 after moving to the United States. In the past twenty years, Sun's artistic research has mainly focused on the abstract expressive artistic creation by using ink painting, oil painting and ceramic media.

Sun Ren's creation is quite active and prolific, and he has made pioneering achievements in many aspects. He is one of the important representatives of the first wave of avant-garde art movement in China. In the work Owl 1983, Sun Ren expressed the owl's animal prototype with 100 different expressions. In the study of formal language, he intensively cultivated in the devil's way, raised the "decorative" art, which was usually defined at that time, to the methodological level of art philosophy, and created it from the semantics of morphology and graphics. This is essentially an important topic that has not been really understood by the art education community. This can not help but remind people of Gombrich, a master of art history and humanities, who trained himself in language format variants when he was young. 1984, on the eve of graduation, Sun Ren went to six provinces in the central and western regions, learned a highly generalized and simplified expression from the vast and quaint natural landscape in the northwest, and created a philosophical and bold abstract landscape painting series "Grand Scenery". From creation

In terms of time and style, judging Grand Scenery by the classification standard of modern world art history is probably the first group of minimalist abstract paintings in China edition. A painting in the big landscape series "Heaven and Earth" was later enlarged by Shanghai Theatre Academy and painted as an outdoor performance poster of the drama "Dark Horse". In this painting, they found the best philosophical interpretation of the spiritual meaning of the drama Black. /kloc-in the summer of 0/985, Sun Ren exhibited a set of suspended modular works "Starry Sky" made of Longquan celadon, as well as Fable History of Bowl, Chess Array, Flying Man and Crops Ghost created in the following years, all of which were the earliest installation works in China or the pioneering works of modern ceramic art in China.

1In the autumn of 985, the modern short play Hamlet in Paradise, written, directed and starring by Sun Ren, was successfully staged in the auditorium of China Academy of Fine Arts through the cooperation of the Arts and Crafts Department, the Chinese Painting Department and the visiting students of Shanghai Theatre Academy. In the play, surrealism, Dadaism and action art are used in combination with dramatic features, showing the marriage scene of Hamlet in heaven and Gefei Badminton Leah who was reincarnated as a dog after her death. The performance was a sensation. I hope the play can participate in the Shakespeare Festival next year. "Ha Opera" expands the extension of visual art methodology and injects creative vitality into stage plays. It should be China's first modern absurd drama combining visual art with drama. In the play, Sun Tzu questioned the dominant position of humanitarianism in the life species on earth, put forward the concept of "pan-life Daoism" and called the play the spokesman of "dog Daoism". At the end of 1985, at the beginning of the "85,86 Art Trend" movement, Sun Ren, Gu Wenda and other six teachers and students of the Chinese Academy of Fine Arts launched the "86' Last Art ExhibitionNo. 1", which meant the end of the conservative and closed traditional art concept and system. Only three hours after the opening of the exhibition, it was approved by the relevant departments. This exhibition may be the shortest exhibition in the history of fine arts in China, and it is also the first time that an artist has organized an exhibition by himself in Zhejiang Province. This action shows the spirit of fighting for artistic autonomy and opposing artistic creation. Sun Sun's work on display is Sleeping Kung Fu in the Desert, which is created in three colors: black, white and gray. This is one of a series of gray humor works of his time, such as Kung Fu in the Desert, Relative Silence, Hanging Fairy, Mo Xie Lee and so on. These works are all minimalist surrealism after the big landscape. In the summer of 1988, as the first solo exhibition of young teachers who stayed in school after the "Cultural Revolution", Sun Ren's solo exhibition was held in the exhibition hall of China Academy of Fine Arts, with dozens of modern ink paintings and dozens of ceramic sculptures created by Sun Ren from 1986 to 1988. The exhibition aroused great repercussions, especially for the academic circles of painting, sculpture and ceramic art in China, and Sun's artistic exploration showed an unprecedented new realm. Some teachers and students went to see it four times in succession, and newspapers and magazines made important reports. Zhejiang TV also made a special TV documentary for his grandson. In his modern ink paintings, such as cultural portraits, pen and ink still life, fables of life, etc. Sun Ren re-examined China's traditional ink painting with a new artistic methodology, while retaining the traditional core language elements such as pen and ink, charm and commercial composition. He made great judgments and innovations in other aspects. He extracted the traditional ink and wash prints separately and enlarged them into paintings.

Through some sharp hard-edged geometric shapes, lines and original dynamic triangles, the theme has been creatively recombined, giving new meaning to the original abstract pen and ink. His exploration of modern abstract ink painting was the most forward-looking at that time. These works not only inherit some essence of tradition, but also completely violate the traditional model from the picture. This seems to be an unacceptable anomaly in Chinese painting. Today, after a lapse of more than 20 years, when China art circles loudly called for how to develop and innovate before Chinese painting faced the development dilemma, I wonder what people at that time would think of Sun Tzu's artistic exploration? Ceramic works account for the vast majority in this exhibition, which is the crystallization of Sun's research on modern art and ceramic art for many years. It is the first batch of ceramic teachers who stayed in China Academy of Fine Arts to teach after the resumption of college entrance examination during the Cultural Revolution. His works have completely broken the traditional understanding that ceramic art is the decoration of utensils, raised ceramic art to the professional definition of the same level as international academic standards, and embodied that modern ceramic art is an independent art type, which can be created through painting, sculpture or any possible artistic means. This exhibition truly shows the arrival of a new era of modern ceramics in China in an academic sense. By the end of 1994, Sun Ren continued his creation of modern ink painting and did a lot of work for the establishment of modern ceramic art in China. He organized and founded Zhejiang Ceramic Society, the first professional organization in China with modern ceramic art as its core, edited the first Overview of the Development of Modern Ceramic Art in the World, was responsible for offering modern ceramic courses in China Academy of Fine Arts, teaching students the creative ideas and techniques of modern ceramic art, organizing academic exchanges with foreign experts for many times, and holding exhibitions such as "China Jiangnan Celadon Modern Art Exhibition" in Singapore. With a comprehensive outlook on the development of China's ceramic art, he wrote a long paper "Conjecture of Modern Ceramic Culture", and published his works and expositions in Fine Arts, Jiangsu Pictorial, New Art, Fuchunjiang Pictorial, Ceramics, Asian Artists, College Students, Lion Art in Taiwan Province Province and Korean International Design Quarterly, which strongly promoted it. As the only China artist's work, his work Ear Pot was selected as the most authoritative "12nd French Valori Ceramics Biennale" in the world. During this period, Sun Tzu overcame various difficulties and created more than 100 ceramic sculptures. His original honeycomb aesthetic language has influenced many people. Because of Sun's arduous efforts in creating modern ceramic art in China, he is called the first person of modern ceramic art in China.

As one of the important representatives of China avant-garde art movement in 1980s, Sun Ren participated in the first Huangshan China Modern Art Seminar and the first China Modern Art Exhibition on 1988. Later, he was invited to attend the China Modern Art Seminar organized by the Norwegian National Art Institute, the Contemporary China Art Seminar organized by the University of San Diego, and the Chicago New Form Art Fair. His ink painting, oil painting and ceramic sculpture are all important representative works of this period. His cutting-edge academic exploration has made great contributions to the development of modern art in China.

At the end of 1994, Sun Ren moved to the United States as an international outstanding artist and entered a completely different environment from the quiet academic ivory tower in China. For a foreigner who has traveled across the ocean to explore the United States, this is really a huge challenge, which requires great courage and wisdom to face. If the highest state of art is that artists use their own sharp eyes to create works that express the spirit of the times, then the artist's personal experience and understanding of the times and environment will be an important source of power for artistic creation. During these ten years, I have lived the most colorful life in the multicultural and multi-ethnic international living environment in the United States.

The experience of struggle has enabled grandchildren to further understand the fundamental relationship between people, people and society, and understand artists and the world they want to express. He visited many museums, galleries and artists, and learned more about art, economy, culture, religion and politics in today's world. As an artist, his ideological realm has reached a higher level, broadened his international vision and made a profound accumulation for his further artistic creation. His abstract ceramic sculpture "The Assumption of Life" gives full play to his cave aesthetics with the help of the artist's invisibility and flame training. In his works, the traces of the artist's labor have disappeared, and his works have grown like an independent new life species, while his newly created modern ink paintings Coincidence and Where Are We? By combining the artist's life state and stream of consciousness with the random processing of abstract pen and ink graphics, a scene space with multiple hints is created to express doubts about the rationality of the real world and illogical thinking about the formation of world things. Sun Ren is in the mature stage of his artistic career. It is not difficult to believe that China's more than ten years of artistic skills, his more than ten years of life experience in the United States and his international vision will give birth to more outstanding works.
