What is ACM?
ACM, that is, acrylate rubber, is an elastomer polymerized with acrylate as the main monomer, saturated carbon chain as the main chain and polar ester group as the side group. In order to improve and maintain the excellent properties of ACM, the processing of ACM is mainly to select suitable vulcanizing monomers and some additives. When synthesizing ACM, different curing point monomers are selected and different curing systems are needed for crosslinking. Suitable curing system is the premise to ensure the full vulcanization of rubber compound.

ACM is widely used in various high-temperature and oil-resistant environments, and has become a key sealing material developed and popularized in the automobile industry, especially suitable for high-temperature oil seals, crankshafts, valve stems, cylinder gaskets, hydraulic oil pipelines, etc.

Synthesis method of ACM

Emulsion polymerization. Emulsion polymerization is the main method to prepare ACM because of its simple equipment and easy implementation. ACM is mainly used for high-temperature oil-resistant sealing products, and has low requirements for low-temperature flexibility. If low-temperature oil resistance is needed, it can be achieved by intramolecular plasticization of low-temperature oil-resistant monomers.

When synthesizing ACM system by emulsion polymerization, the emulsion system and dosage will affect the stability, final conversion rate, molecular weight distribution, processability and even the physical properties of vulcanized rubber, so many additives should be added, such as emulsifier, initiator, molecular weight regulator and coagulant.
