Integrating the bibliographic data and reader data resources of the original three-school libraries, the borrowing, returning and reading of book data resources in three campuses have been realized; Self-built "Chinese Bibliographic Database", "Chinese Newspapers Database", "Ancient Books Online Bibliographic Database" and "English Bibliographic Database". The library has nearly 50 databases that can be accessed online, including mirror images, various comprehensive and thematic databases that have access and trial use; In 2003, the Liberal Arts Sub-center of Henan Higher Education Literature Guarantee System was established.
Since the library started the automation construction project in 1997, the school has invested a lot of money in the purchase of software and hardware equipment and the introduction of new technologies, which has completely changed the traditional management and service mode of the library, greatly improved the work efficiency and service quality, and played an increasingly important role in the school's teaching, scientific research and production. The library now has 43 service windows for readers, including more than 34 reading rooms and stacks and 6,647 reading seats. Open for more than 86.5 hours per week; The circulation lending office is open all day from Monday to Sunday; There is also a collection of books and periodicals inquiry center and information retrieval center. Provide books and periodicals borrowing, audio-visual electronic documents, knowledge retrieval, online inquiry, document delivery, copying, binding, photography, microfilm and other services for more than 40,000 teachers, students and social readers in the school.
Their specific measures are: 1, paying attention to the full open management of stacks, reading rooms and databases. Books, newspapers and periodicals are open in all directions, and the database is transmitted infinitely on the campus network, thus completing the zero-distance contact between readers and books, periodicals and knowledge warehouses. Automatic lending, intelligent retrieval and providing knowledge units have greatly improved the utilization rate of books, periodicals and databases. As far as borrowing books are concerned, the original closed-shelf manual borrowing and returning average more than 2,000 copies per day, and the open-shelf computer borrowing and returning average 8,000 copies per day, with the highest daily borrowing and returning amount reaching the historical record of 1.7 million copies.
2. Establish a consultation and service network in the museum. Combined with the post characteristics, the responsibility of service and management education is integrated into every work link of the library, and the concept of family service and love dedication is embodied in every work. Advocate "the first question is responsible", implement "service promise", insist on "listing for posts", weave personalized and one-stop service groups, deepen "civilized and high-quality service competition", and change passive service into active service, so that readers can obtain not only knowledge but also service.
3. Explore new ways of reading guidance and broaden the field of reading guidance. Traditional reading guidance methods such as writing "new book bulletin" and "important book introduction" can neither meet the needs of readers nor reveal the collection. After years of continuous exploration, we have successfully carried out the following work: (1) According to the needs of readers, we have compiled more than 20 kinds of bibliographies and thesis indexes, and put them in the reading room or exchanged them with various departments for readers' use; (2) The joint book company established the "Henan University Reading Award" to encourage students to read more and better books, which has been held for 4 times. In 2004, we organized a one-year reading activity of "reading cultural classics and building a scholarly campus", and carried out a series of activities such as essay contest, academic report, poetry reading and book fair. (3) Insist on the education of library utilization for freshmen, and set up the course of literature retrieval and utilization, so that students can not only understand the literature, but more importantly, master the key to finding knowledge; (4) Establish a book review society, hold reading reports, book review lectures, book review seminars and exhibitions, compile and distribute magazine bookstores (semi-annual reports), and organize, manage and guide students to read, read and understand life. Over the past 20 years, more than 600 book reviewers have come out from here and published more than 300 related articles in various newspapers and periodicals.
4. Explore new ways of user training. Network resources have become an important part of library resources, so it is very important to cultivate users and make full use of resources. It is proved to be effective to compile the Database User Manual, distribute leaflets on the database, and conduct user training at different levels (that is, individual counseling by school leaders, centralized counseling by teachers in departments, and regular counseling by students).
5. Actively open the collection and actively serve the society. Although the service subject of university library is the faculty and students of the whole school, serving the society can not be ignored. In the 1980s and 1990s, people from all over the world came to look up information in an endless stream. Usually, we have full-time staff to receive visiting domestic and foreign readers, such as domestic readers from Beijing, Guangxi, Gansu and Taiwan Province provinces, and foreign readers from France, Japan and South Korea. They can answer questions one by one and solve problems that they can't solve elsewhere. Therefore, they often receive books, photos, thank-you letters and so on. From them.
With the application of modern technology in university libraries, in order to completely change the traditional closed management mode with lending service and manual operation, Henan University Library started the automation construction project in the spring of 1997. With the strong support of school leaders and the hard work of librarians, 1999 built the LAN and CD-ROM LAN of "Modern Technology Application Management System of Henan University Library", realizing the integration of editing and cataloging. 40 microcomputer electronic reading rooms and 42 sets of "TV +VCD" audio-visual rooms have been opened; Connect to the campus network, China Education and Research Network and Internet; Basically completed the first leap from traditional manual management to modern management.
