Ou Yangxun's calligraphy was famous in the world as early as the Sui Dynasty, and spread abroad. After entering the Tang Dynasty, he was an old man and a calligrapher, and the art of calligraphy reached a state of perfection.
Ou Yangxun's calligraphy achievement is the highest in regular script. Because of his bold brushwork and unique structure, he is called "European style" by later generations. His regular script originated in Han Li, and his pen and structure have very strict procedures and strong backbone; See danger in peace and elegance in rules; The strokes are interspersed and arranged properly, which is most convenient for beginners. The Thirty-six Methods of Ouyang's Structure, which was circulated by later generations, is a structure writing method summarized from his regular script. His regular script is the most famous, such as Jiuchenggong Liquan inscription, Huadu Temple monument and Yugong Gong monument, which is called "the first in the Tang Dynasty". Wei Zhi and Ou Yangxun wrote The Inscription of Liquan in Jiucheng Palace, which recorded the discovery of spring water by Emperor Taizong during his summer vacation in Jiucheng Palace. This monument was built in the sixth year of Zhenguan in Tang Dynasty (632), with 24 lines and 49 words each. This tablet is neat with a pen, and the whole tablet can see danger. The calligraphy and painting are arranged compactly and symmetrically, and the shelf is stable. Chen Ming Jiru once commented: "This outpost is deep in the mountains and forests, thin, hard and cold, but full of air, which can make the king bend his knees. It is impossible for him to drive." The graphite engraving of Zhao Han in Ming Dynasty called this tablet "the first official book". This is Ou Yangxun's masterpiece, and many people who study European books take this monument as an example.
Ou Yangxun's regular script is most famous for Zhong Ni Monti Tie and Zhang Han Lu Si Tie. Among them, Zhang Hansi's Lv Tie is basically consistent with his regular script style, and both win by risks. The center of gravity of the word is on the left, and thousands of strokes are pressed to the right, so that the structure of each word forms a rebellious trend, and then the right force is used to turn the tide. It can be described as "seeking stability in danger is endless fun." Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty commented: "It is wonderful and more than enough to take advantage of the situation."
On the calligraphy theory, Ou Yangxun also made great contributions. His "Eight Tactics of Ou Yangxun" has original ideas. Its "eight tactics" are: (point) to fall from the peak like a stone; (Yoko) Be like the new moon in the sky; (horizontal) like a thousand miles of clouds; (Vertical) Be like a dead vine that has lived for ten thousand years; (vertical ge) should be folded like a golden pine and fall on a cliff; (Folding) A crossbow as heavy as Wanjun is about to be launched; (left) like a rhinoceros horn cut with a sword; (si) it takes a wave and three strokes. These eight methods have a far-reaching impact on future generations.
