Generally, a paper gives readers the first impression except the title, and the quality of the abstract directly affects the retrieval rate, reading volume and citation frequency of the paper. Generally speaking, it takes a paragraph to complete an English abstract. Under special circumstances, it can be divided into two or three sections, but it is best not to exceed three. The length is generally between 200 words and 300 words.
Matters needing attention in writing English abstracts:
1. The English abstract is rigorous in structure, concise in expression and precise in semantics. Try to use short sentences, but be careful with long sentences.
2. It should be expressed in the third person, and the predicate verb should be the simple present tense, the present perfect tense or the simple past tense. Compound tenses such as continuous tenses are basically not used.
3. The voice of English abstract can be active or passive. Normative academic articles usually use passive voice to highlight information. However, due to the clearer expression of active voice, active voice is now required in some places.
4. When paper is used as the subject to describe the general situation of the paper, the general present tense is often used: this paper aims to focus on … and when study is used to describe the same content, the general past tense is often used: this research survey.
5. Things that must not appear, such as uncommon words, illustrations, tables, mathematical formulas, chemical equations, Chinese punctuation, too many adjectives, irrelevant background information, self-evaluation, etc.
