Comparison of Ursodeoxycholic Acid and Placebo in Treating Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy (ICP) to Improve Perinatal Outcome: Randomized Controlled Trial Scheme (PITCHES)

The method in this paper describes this.

PITCHES trial is a triple-masked, placebo-controlled randomized trial to evaluate the efficacy of UDCA and placebo in ICP women from 20+0 to 40+6 weeks of pregnancy. The main purpose of this experiment is to determine whether UDC A treatment for ICP women from 20+0 to 40+6 weeks of pregnancy will reduce the main perinatal outcome: perinatal death (defined as intrauterine fetal death after random grouping or known neonatal death for 7 days) or premature delivery (less than 37 weeks of pregnancy) or neonatal unit admission for at least 4 hours (from birth to discharge). The secondary objectives of this experiment are (1) to investigate the impact of UDCA on other short-term outcomes of mothers and babies, and (2) to evaluate the impact of UDCA on the use of health care resources according to the total number of nights of mothers and babies and the level of care.
