The college has seven teaching units, including railway engineering department, railway transportation department, railway power department, railway electricity department, railway construction department, basic course department and training department, and offers 19 majors such as railway engineering technology, railway communication signal and railway traffic operation management.

The College has organized vocational qualification and vocational skills training for related majors. In 2005, it established 195 Railway Specific Job Skills Appraisal Station 15 Station and 6 1 National Vocational Skills Appraisal Station in Tianjin, which can appraise 80 jobs in five grades of junior, middle and senior workers, technicians and senior technicians, so as to implement "double certificates". Entrusted by the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Railways, the College trained 80 senior technical personnel for Tanzania-Zambia Railway in two phases in 200 1 and 2003 respectively, and all the teachers taught in English.
