In the market economy, profit is undoubtedly the goal in front of every enterprise. However, profitability and social responsibility are not a question that must be chosen between them. Under the premise of survival and development, enterprises must consider their own social values, which means what kind of moral orientation enterprises should adopt in the process of transition from planned economy to market economy and the continuous development of market economy.

Faced with the hypothesis of "economic man" and a completely competitive market, enterprises have to face a moral vacuum in a sense. After all, the market is heartless. We can't naively expect the market itself to consciously realize a series of problems it brings, let alone expect the market itself to clearly correct this inequality.

Undoubtedly, some enterprises, as molecules in the market, make profits through rent-seeking and seek a lot of benefits for their own development. However, in the long run, rights trading not only increases the operating costs of enterprises, but also easily leads to market chaos, affecting the interests of all sectors of society, and ultimately all enterprises may suffer together. Therefore, in order to stabilize the market environment and the interests of enterprises themselves, the overall development of social welfare inevitably requires enterprises to be moral "economic men", that is, we recognize the rationality of enterprises' pursuit of maximizing interests, but at the same time we also require their profit-seeking behavior to be reasonable. In other words, the principle of honesty and law-abiding is the bottom line of a company's business development.

However, on the shuttle bus of globalization, honesty is only the bottom line for the healthy development of an enterprise. Enterprises also need to have social responsibility, as American entrepreneur craig hall said: Entrepreneurs can and should become a part of social development and the whole society, and they should have a relationship of power and responsibility with the whole society. In other words, the existence of enterprises depends on the existence of society, so enterprises should be based on the concept of social responsibility of entrepreneurs, not on the concept of rights of entrepreneurs. Instead of passively assuming social responsibility, enterprises may wish to bring social responsibility into the scope of active concern. In fact, this has lifted some restrictions in the development of enterprises to a certain extent, making decision-making and management more flexible and independent. As an enterprise, taking the initiative to assume social responsibility will bring greater freedom to itself to a certain extent.

The honorable Jack Jack Welch wrote the chapter of enterprise and society in his autobiography: "I think a strong and competitive company can take responsibility for the whole society. Only healthy enterprises can improve and enrich the life of human beings and their communities. A powerful company can not only serve the society by paying taxes, but also provide all kinds of conveniences for the whole world and improve the standardization of safety and environment. Powerful companies will reinvest in manpower and equipment. The company provides good, stable and healthy development work, and employees can get enough time, energy and various resources, multiplied by the return to society ... "
