1956 In September, the Central Conservatory of Music took the lead in setting up a department of music among the national music art colleges. After nearly 50 years' efforts, the Music Department has formed a complete teaching system and the most concentrated academic group in musicology construction. 1982, the State Council Academic Degrees Committee approved the discipline of musicology of the Central Conservatory of Music as the authorization point for master's degree; 1988, which is the authorization point of doctoral degree. Judging from the major setting, curriculum structure, teaching staff, academic research and personnel training of musicology, the department of musicology in our college has always stood at the forefront of the construction and development of musicology in China and is an important base for the teaching and research of musicology in China.
At present, the Music Department has set up six professional research directions: China Music History, China Traditional Music Theory, Western Music History, Music Aesthetics, World Folk Music Theory and Music Art Management, and four research rooms: Multimedia Teaching Studio, Buddhist Music Culture Research Room, Music Psychology Research Room and National Music Science and Technology Experiment Center.
