The main pollutants in the atmosphere are carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and particulate matter. If their content in the air exceeds a certain standard, it will endanger people's health. The air pollution index is less than 50, which means that the air is good, and the pollutant concentration is less than the first-class standard limit in the Environmental Air Quality Standard, which is Grade I, which meets the air quality requirements of some areas that need special protection, such as nature reserves and scenic spots.

The air pollution index is more than 50 and less than 100, which means that the concentration of general pollutants in air quality is less than the second-class standard limit in the Ambient Air Quality Standard, which is second-class good and meets the air quality requirements of urban residential areas, commercial traffic residential mixed areas, cultural areas, general industrial areas and rural areas.

Preventing air pollution and controlling pollution discharge are fundamental measures to improve air quality. The main ways are: reasonable industrial layout and good environmental planning; Change the energy structure, popularize clean fuels and adopt clean production technology to reduce pollutant emissions; Strengthen energy conservation, improve energy utilization rate and regional central heating; Strengthen environmental supervision and management and control of old pollution sources, and implement total control and discharge up to standard; Strictly control automobile exhaust emissions.
