John keats (1795- 182 1) was a British romantic poet in the19th century. His life was short but legendary. For a century and a half, Keats' study has become an important field of British and American literature research, and it has been evaluated more and more highly in contemporary times. In the west, Keats' reputation greatly surpassed that of other romantic poets, including Shelley, Byron and Wordsworth. The analysis of Keats' poems is deepening. Keats' poems not only bring readers the enjoyment of beauty, but also cause readers to think about life and death. Death is an eternal theme in literary creation. German philosopher martin heidegger said that man exists towards death. Based on the death narrative in Keats' poems, this paper tries to understand Keats' view of death and explore the relationship between his view of death and the poet's background and personal experience. This paper consists of six parts: The first chapter is literature review. The second chapter is the introduction, including Keats' brief introduction, the overview of this paper, research methods and research significance. The third chapter analyzes the formation of Keats' view of death and explains the interaction between his special historical and cultural background and the poet's personal experience. These complicated backgrounds deeply influenced Keats, which not only promoted him to form a unique view of death, but also promoted the progress and perfection of his literature and art. The fourth chapter analyzes the death narrative in Keats' poems, mainly taking Ode to a Nightingale and Ode to Autumn as examples. Ode to a Nightingale has always been regarded as an immortal work in English poetry and the pinnacle of Keats' poetic art. Ode to Autumn is the last brief introduction of john keats in his ode poems, which is considered as the most perfect and representative work. Keats fully expressed his understanding of life and death in his poems. By reading these works, readers can gain insight into Keats' inner world and communicate with the poet's soul. The fifth chapter explains Keats' view of death. Specifically, Keats' view of death has three aspects: death is inevitable and is a natural law of alternation between the old and the new; Death is the highest reward for life; Born to die, cherish and praise life. Reading Keats' poems, we can gain insight into the poet's inner feelings of cherishing and praising life. In nature, the poet found the beauty missing in real life and the strength to fight against fate. At the same time, from the birth and death of natural creatures and the natural replacement of social things, the poet also understands that death is only a natural law of alternating old and new, and is not affected by human will. The sixth chapter is the conclusion of this paper. Keats's life is short, just like a dazzling meteor, but it has left many precious legacies to the history of British and even world literature. Studying and discussing Keats' view of death will help readers to know more about this great poet, introduce john keats briefly and understand that era more widely.
