Clausewitz (1780~ 183 1) is a Prussian military theorist and the founder of modern western military theory. Participated in the European anti-French alliance's war against Napoleon. He has served as chief of staff of cavalry, chief of staff of legion and president of Berlin Military Academy. He was awarded the rank of major general in 19 18. Clausewitz made outstanding contributions to the establishment of bourgeois military theory. His greatest contribution lies in the study and correct exposition of the relationship between war and politics. Therefore, he himself is regarded as the originator of modern western military theory.
Not only the western military scholars greatly appreciated it, but also the classical Marxist writers spoke highly of clausewitz and his On War. Engels said, "clausewitz, like Jomini, is a model writer who studies linear army in world literature." Marx called clausewitz a man with almost witty reasoning ability. Lenin pointed out in the article "Socialism and War" that war is the continuation of politics, which is the famous saying of Krakowitz, an accomplished military writer. Marxists always regard this principle as the theoretical basis for examining the significance of every war. The famous assertion that "war is just the continuation of another means of politics" put forward by Kozhuang Sevez has profoundly influenced the development of bourgeois military science. At the same time, it has also become one of the important sources to understand the Marxist view of war. Lenin later summarized the essence of war as "war is the political continuation of this class or that class", which was developed on the basis of clausewitz's understanding, thus revealing the essence of war more accurately and scientifically.
