Abstract: Environmental art design is the product of the integrated development of art, natural environment, social environment and people, and the result of people's continuous summary and sublimation of the form and connotation of space environment. In the process of project design, we should pay attention to the grasp and research of comprehensive factors, and skillfully and reasonably integrate regional environment, cultural characteristics and artistic conception. Excellent environmental art design works should be based on comprehensive regional culture, multi-level and multi-angle interpretation of cultural connotation, which can fully show the regional cultural heritage. Taking Gansu regional culture as the breakthrough point, this paper expounds that environmental art design should be rooted in the local environment, better explain that environmental art design should be integrated with Gansu regional cultural characteristics, and promote the display of regional cultural characteristics in environmental art design works.

First of all, the development of environmental art design needs the integration of regional cultural characteristics.

Environmental art design is the artistic creation of environmental space based on people's spiritual pursuit of beautiful things in the natural environment. Its form is not only expressed by painting, sculpture and other artistic ways, but also by enclosing the environmental space and connecting the inside and outside, thus creating an environmental art that is integrated with life. This requires people to grasp the environmental art design scheme systematically and integrally, so as to find ways and means to solve the problem. At the same time, the relationship between existence and behavior in space and environment is getting closer and closer. We should fully meet people's physical and psychological needs in the space environment while constantly improving the needs and quality of survival and behavior. This requires environmental art design to become a highly comprehensive and comprehensive discipline system, covering related knowledge systems in the fields of natural science and humanities and social sciences, and constantly expanding and enriching its connotation according to the needs of social development. Due to the development of the industry, environmental art design practitioners generally have problems such as lack of comprehensive business ability, unclear purpose of environmental art design, and lack of social responsibility. The integrity of design works is not strong, the functional design is not good, the sense of design is not strong, and the cultural connotation of design works can not be reflected. They blindly pursue the sense of form of design works and ignore the influence of regional cultural characteristics, which leads to the sameness of design works. Therefore, the project development and design implementation of environmental art design should fully reflect nationalization, regionalization and personalization.

Secondly, the regional cultural characteristics of Gansu are the characteristic resources of environmental art design education.

Gansu is one of the important birthplaces of Chinese civilization with profound traditional culture and rich cultural resources. Due to geographical location and environmental factors, Gansu is a gathering place of farming culture, grassland culture, Silk Road culture and religious culture. Dunhuang culture here stands in the forest of world culture; Painted pottery and bronze cultural sites have far-reaching influence; The Silk Road culture has a long history; Yellow River culture and Fuxi culture are unique regional cultures in China traditional culture. The long-term multi-ethnic social environment has laid a solid and heavy foundation for the development of minority culture in Gansu. Brick carving, shadow play, paper-cutting, embroidery, folk art, "flowers" and minority culture and art, which are unique in Gansu, constitute a unique artistic expression form in Gansu. Gansu's regional cultural characteristics, with its unique natural environmental factors, historical culture, folk culture, national culture and religious culture, show the regional environmental culture and artistic resources with profound cultural connotations. The development and innovation of environmental art design should grasp the design trend of the times, and develop and study Gansu traditional culture and Gansu regional environmental art.

Thirdly, the integration of environmental art design and regional cultural characteristics.

Harmonious development is an effective way to inherit and develop environmental art design education. Through the principle of sustainable development, contemporary environmental art design comprehensively coordinates social, economic, environmental and cultural factors to create a harmonious and beautiful living environment that meets people's needs. The theoretical basis of human-centered survival is the premise of sustainable development, and its content is the sustainability of ecological environment, economic growth and social development. Sustainable development should be based on natural resources, coordinated with the carrying capacity of the environment, aimed at improving the quality of life and adapting to social progress, which is the development prospect and ultimate goal of environmental art design. [1] Culture is the historical connotation of any country and any nation. Regional cultural characteristics are the external manifestations of material and spiritual achievements created by human beings for their own survival and development under certain time and space conditions, which are different from other regional characteristics. In this sense, regional characteristics are the product of the historical development of a specific region and are closely related to social life and historical features. It contains the inherent qualities of people and society and reflects the historical accumulation of human civilization. Therefore, the cultural environment is the witness of history and an important factor for the continued development of the region. [2] Environmental art design is to think about environmental art design by using the research methods of comparison, analogy, induction and summary, on the basis of sociology, culturology, economics, philosophy, urban economic management and other related research results. In the fierce collision of contradictions such as "tradition and modernity, protection and development, fairness and benefit, nation and the world", we seek and analyze the main aspects of the main contradictions and contradictions, gain an essential understanding of the concept of environmental integrity, and interpret the development of the overall environment from the perspective of relevant sociological theories such as "modernization and humanism". This also requires people to establish a scientific and realistic research attitude and deal with the environmental art system design with systematic thinking. [3]

To sum up, history is the accumulation of regional culture and the crystallization of material culture and spiritual culture. Any nation will develop based on its own cultural traditions. Gansu region is rich in historical and cultural resources and profound cultural accumulation, which is a treasure house for the development and progress of environmental art design. The basic starting point of environmental design features is to embody the characteristics of regional culture and national cultural spirit in environmental art design.
