How to prevent rumen food accumulation in cattle?
[symptoms]

Cattle rumen food accumulation is also called acute rumen dilatation. At the early stage of the disease, appetite, rumination and belching decreased or stopped, and the nose mirror was dry, showing hunchback, looking back at the abdomen, kicking the abdomen, wagging its tail and lying restless. When palpated, the rumen was full and solid, sandbag-shaped and painful. Percussion is sound. Rumen peristalsis weakened at first and then disappeared during auscultation. In severe cases, it is difficult to breathe, groan, vomit feces and water, and sometimes flow out of the nasal cavity. If not treated in time, most people die of dehydration, poisoning, exhaustion or suffocation.

Treatment should promptly remove rumen contents, restore rumen peristalsis and relieve acidosis.

(1) massage therapy

Massage the rumen on the left calf with the palm of your hand for 5 ~ 10 minutes each time and every 30 minutes 1 time. Combined with drinking plenty of warm water, the effect is better.

(2) Diarrhea therapy

500-800g of magnesium sulfate or sodium sulfate, 65438 0,000ml of water and 65438 0,000ml of liquid paraffin oil or vegetable oil are taken orally to accelerate the excretion of rumen contents.

(3) promoting peristalsis therapy

Drugs that can stimulate rumen peristalsis, such as 10% hypertonic sodium chloride 300 ~ 500 ml and neostigmine 20 ~ 60 ml, can achieve good therapeutic effect.

(4) gastric lavage therapy

A rubber tube or plastic tube with a diameter of 4-5 cm and a length of 250-300 cm is introduced into the rumen through the mouth of cattle, and then twitched back and forth to stimulate the contraction of the rumen, so that the liquid in the rumen flows out through the catheter. If the rumen contents cannot flow out automatically, connect a funnel at the other end of the catheter and inject 3000 ~ 4000 ml warm water into the rumen. When all the liquid in the funnel flows into the catheter, remove the funnel, lower the bull's head and catheter, and draw the rumen contents out of the body through siphon (Figure 9-4). Repeatedly, the concentrate can be washed out.

(5) Fluid replacement therapy

When sick cows have poor appetite and obvious dehydration, they should be given intravenous infusion and supplemented with alkali, such as 25% glucose 500 ~ 1000 ml, compound sodium chloride solution 3 ~ 4 liters or 5% sugar saline, 5% sodium bicarbonate solution 500 ~ 1000 ml, etc. , and one-time intravenous injection.

(6) Rumen incision therapy

For severe and stubborn food retention, it is feasible to cut the rumen and take out the rumen contents when the application of drugs is ineffective.
