What is Zen?

[Zen] The abbreviation of Buddhism "Zen" is a transliteration of Sanskrit. Others translated it as "abandoning evil" or "jungle of merits and demerits". Its free translation is "thinking cultivation" or "quiet thinking". It is a practice method of Buddhism, in which there are differences between founder Zen and Buddha Zen. It is said that thinking cultivation is based on career, which means that a mind is trained for career and can be centered, so it is called thinking cultivation. People who speak softly are named after their bodies. Its Zen style is silent and thoughtful, so it is called meditation. Quiet means calm, worry means wisdom, and the wonderful body of equal wisdom is called "Zen" That is, Buddhism generally talks about meditation. The virtual spirit is static, and the outer edge (foreign object) is detached from the ice, which is not affected by it; Take back God and let the spirit look back at itself (non-body). This is Zen.

Someone asked Zen master Da Long Zhihong, "What is subtle Zen?"

Zen master Zhihong replied: "The wind sends the underwater acoustic pillow, and the moon moves the mountain window."

In the air, the plane leaves fell; At present, bleak autumn flowers are frosting. A scholar asked Zen master Zhao Zhou, "How do you understand life under such circumstances?"

Zen master Zhao Zhou said simply, "It doesn't rain, but NO FENG フウカ has."

Zen master Datong and Zen master Ji Shanzhang are drinking tea outdoors. Zen master Datong pointed to the green mountains and trees, blue sky and white clouds reflected in the teacup and said, "Everything is in it."

Master Zhang spilled tea on the ground and asked, Where is Vientiane?

Zen master Datong said, "It's a pity to have a cup of tea."

This is Zen, Zen attitude and Zen wisdom.

A Zen master asked Zhao Zhou, "How can I achieve enlightenment through meditation?"

Zhao Zhou, a hundred years old, seems to be in a hurry. He stood up hurriedly and said as he walked out, "I'm sorry, I can't tell you now, because I have something urgent."

Just arrived at the door, Zhao Zhou suddenly stopped and turned to the Zen master and said, "Look, the old monk is an old man, also called the ancient Buddha. However, for such a trivial matter as urinating, he must go in person and no one can replace him. "

Zen monk suddenly realized: Zen is a realm, an experience, such as drinking water, knowing oneself in cold and warm. The feeling of Zen is irreplaceable-if you want to know the taste of pears, you have to taste them yourself.

What is Zen? Everyone who studies Buddhism knows that this topic is strictly problematic because Zen is out of the question. The realm of Zen is that words break the heart and destroy it, which is different from the level of thinking words; However, "the wonderful height is beyond words; The second peak, talk a little. " In order to introduce the realm of Zen to everyone, it is still necessary to explain it in words.

Today's society is full of troubles, and material life is extravagant and flashy. However, many people feel that life is empty, and their mental anxiety and pain have multiplied. Therefore, this kind of Zen which can solve life problems and improve the realm of life has attracted the attention of intellectuals and social people all over the world.

Zen can open up our minds, inspire people's wisdom and lead us into a more detached free world. Zen meets the conditions of truth, goodness and beauty; It's hard to say, but if you want to know what Zen is, you must try your best to find it. Now it is divided into three parts, namely the history, content and practice of Zen.

History of Zen Buddhism

The Buddha spoke for more than 300 times, saying that in 49 years, Sanzang and Twelve Classics were boundless. However, these countless words are not directly related to the origin of Zen. Legend has it that one day, at the Lingshan meeting, the Buddha ascended the throne and ordered a flower for the public to see. When everyone was in unknown so, only Mahayana laughed. At that time, the Buddha said, "I have a true eye, a wonderful heart, no reality, and a subtle practice. I entrusted Mahayana." The Buddha then entrusted the Dharma to Mahayana, and Zen began to pass on.

Indian Zen masters have been handed down from generation to generation, and the 28th founder Dharma came to China during the reign of Liang Wudi in the Southern Dynasties. Liang Wudi believed in Buddhism and gave his life for Thai temples three times, giving alms to monks all over the world and building bridges and temples. According to the eyes of ordinary people, his merits are boundless. When Master Dharma met Liang Wudi, Liang Wudi asked him, "Are there any merits in these Buddhist undertakings I have done?"

Father Dharma said, "There is no merit."

Liang Wudi was poured a pot of cold water, thinking, how can I work so hard without credit? Therefore, he was not satisfied with the answer given by the founder of Dharma.

In fact, from a deeper perspective, Liang Wudi's income is only a return, which should be a blessing, not a merit. From the standpoint of Zen Buddhism, Father Dharma said what he really meant, but Liang Wudi didn't appreciate it. So Dharma moved to Songshan Shaolin Temple.

From this record, we can appreciate the mystery of Zen, which is really beyond the judgment of general opinions. Like Liang Wudi's intention, this is not the real goal of Zen. Even if there is income, it is only a blessing. In the Zen master's view, this has nothing to do with the enlightened Tao.

Shen Guang Hui Ke, a native of Henan, was proficient in world studies as a teenager. In his prime, he became a monk in Xiangshan, Longmen, and later came to Shaolin Temple in Songshan to seek enlightenment and become an apprentice. Dharma refused to let him in, so Shen Guang waited outside the door. It snowed all over the sky, and after a long time, the snow was waist-deep. Dharma saw that he was really sincere in seeking dharma and was allowed to go in. Ask him, "What on earth are you here for? 』

Shen Guang replied: "Disciple is not at ease, please be at ease."

Dharma shouted, "bring me your heart and I will be safe for you!" "

Shen Guang said in surprise: "You can't get your heart if you find it!"

Dharma actually said at this moment: "I am very at ease with you!" "

Divine light and wisdom can suddenly come true. Worry is empty, sin has no body, intimacy is silent, and there is no delusion. It is enlightenment, it is Buddhism and Taoism. If you can understand, the Buddha's nature will be revealed now.

We generally call Dharma the ancestor of Zen in China, and Hui Ke is the second ancestor.

Later, Hui Ke handed down three ancestors' monk daughters, and the monk daughters handed down four ancestors' Taoist books, and the Taoist books handed down five ancestors' forbearance.

Sanzang is a great disciple of the five ancestors, preaching and teaching to solve doubts. At that time, people regarded him as a descendant of the five ancestors. At this moment, however, a Hui Neng came to the south, which made a lot of money. Although it is located in the land where barbarians are still stubborn, it is eager to seek the law and does not fall behind.

When meeting Wu Zu, Wu Zu tested him and said, "Southerners have no Buddha nature. 』

At that time, Huineng replied: "People have north and south, but do they have the Buddha nature of north and south?" ? 』

After his refutation, Uzu knew that this man was a Dungan caste and was very popular. In order to test his mind, he was asked to pound rice in the woodshed to avoid public attention for the time being.

Later, the Five Ancestors ordered everyone to slap in the face, thinking that the basis of preaching was that if they saw sex, they would get a cloak and become the Five Ancestors. At this time, the public thinks that clothes must look good, so no one dares to compare with him.

At that time, Shen Xiu wanted to think day and night, and finally put forward a suggestion:

"Be a bodhi tree, such as a dressing table;

Wipe frequently, and don't create dust. "

Wuzu thought this son was good, but he still couldn't see him. So the mantle was not passed on to him.

Huineng learned in the woodshed and thought, how about I present it? Then the central people wrote poems for him on the wall. This proverb goes like this:

"Bodhi has no trees, and the mirror is not Taiwan;

There is nothing, so there is no dust. "

When the fifth ancestor saw it, he knew that Huineng had seen sex. To avoid it, someone erased it. Then knock on the woodshed. Q: "Is the meal cooked?"

Huineng replied, "I've been cooked for a long time, just waiting to screen my ears."

Wuzu then knocked on the door three times. Huineng understood that it was in the middle of the night and went to Wuzu's seat to ask him to perform.

When Wuzu taught him the Diamond Sutra, Huineng suddenly realized that "he should have nothing to live in but his heart". Five ancestors handed him the mantle and ordered him to go south and wait for the opportunity. Wuzu sent them to the river and said, "I'll take you by boat." 』

Huineng said, "When you are confused, you can learn from it. He went to Honghua in the south alone and eventually became the sixth ancestor in ancient and modern times.

From these historical records, we can know that the style of Zen is quite unique. The so-called "teaching others at school" and "not writing" are the real opportunities. However, not everyone can understand the purpose of Zen, so it is often misinterpreted. The enlightenment of Zen Buddhism is an understanding of nature and is revealed according to human nature. His principle is based on the truth that "all beings have Buddha nature and everyone can become a Buddha". Then how many people can understand the meaning of this layer? Isn't Liang Wudi's Blessing a typical example? As for today, who can directly explore the source of Zen? This depends on the aspirations and practice of all beings seeking dharma!

The content of Zen

The case-solving of Zen in ancient and modern times is the answer for the Zen master to test or prove his disciples' consciousness. In fact, this answer is what most people call "exam". The difference is that it changes with everyone's roots, time and place, and there is no clear and unified standard answer, nor is it derived from thinking and understanding. Therefore, if you are not a Zen master and an apprentice, it is sometimes difficult to understand the truth. Moreover, if we use the concept of ordinary people to scrutinize, we will often find that "solving a case" is contrary to common sense.

Zen is treated without language and cannot be said. When it is said, it is wrong. However, the truth is true, but for ordinary people, if you don't say it, it will never be possible to enter. So we have seen quite a few Zen quotations, which is the reason. Now, let's list some points about the content and characteristics of Zen, which is an opportunity to get started and let us know more about the scenery of Zen Sect.

(A) Zen and self

Among other schools of Buddhism, some became Buddhas with the help of others, while Zen is completely self-reliant. For example, the Pure Land Sect holds the name of Buddha, and the Tantric Sect holds the mantra, all of which pray for the Buddhas to put it on and cooperate with their own efforts to gain a degree. There is a warning in the Zen Gate: "Say a Buddhist word and rinse your mouth for three days"! Zen master believes that it is his own business to become a Buddha and see sex, and it is impossible to get the Tao with the help of others. Only taking responsibility and working hard is the best guarantee. It is impossible to seek Buddhism from the outside of the heart, and nature is beautiful. Everyone has enough, but seeking a heart can now prove it.

Gao Zong, a Zen master of Dahui in Song Dynasty, went out to study and was rejected by Daoqian. Later Zongyuan went with him. Zong Yuan once told him that there are five things that others can't help: walking, eating, hunger, thirst and excretion.

Someone asked Zen master Zhao Zhou, "How can I achieve enlightenment through meditation?"

After hearing this, Jackson Zhao Zhou stood up and said, "I'm going to pee in the toilet."

Zen master Zhao Zhou took two steps, stopped and said, "Look, I have to go by myself for such a small thing!" "

The same is true of seeking the law. How can others help? I suddenly understood a modest remark.

Once upon a time, both father and son were thieves. One day, the father took his son to a place to commit a crime. At that place, the father deliberately locked his son in someone else's closet, then shouted to catch the thief, but he escaped. In desperation, the son pretended to be a mouse and cheated the owner of that family, and finally escaped.

He kept complaining when he met his father.

His father told him: "this kind of kung fu is to train your wit, see your adaptability and steal kung fu, and this adaptability is your own, and others can't help you."

Although this story is not necessarily true, it can be used as a metaphor for Zen teaching attitude. Zen masters often push their disciples into the realm of thought or consciousness, and then ask them to find their own way of life. In this case, if we can break through this barrier, we will see a vast sky, and it will be overnight to become a Buddha and see nature. "A husband has his own ambition, not for the Tathagata", which is the basic tenet of Zen Buddhism. Don't be led by the nose. The biggest feature of Zen is to undertake, pursue and complete oneself independently in practice.

(B) Zen and knowledge

Zen does not talk about knowledge, so it is not hindered by knowledge, and it also regards knowledge as the greatest enemy. Knowledge distracts people. In the field of knowledge, people will lose themselves, and even be mastered by evil knowledge Jaken, forming a tool that harms all beings. Therefore, Zen first requires self-pursuit, and its process and means are often contrary to human feelings, knowledge and common sense.

Because in the mind of Zen master, flowers are not necessarily red, and willows are not necessarily green. They know a deeper realm from the negative level. They don't have to argue with each other or transcend language, so they have a richer realm of life. Fu Dashi will say: "Take a hoe empty-handed and ride a buffalo on foot;" People cross the bridge, but the bridge does not flow. "This is an unreasonable descriptive sentence, which is a complete challenge to the consciousness of getting rid of delusion, in order to break the people's obsession with knowledge. Sweep away the chaotic world and make people enter a more real, beautiful and beautiful spiritual realm. Zen is illogical, but it has a higher realm; Zen is unreasonable, but it has a deeper meaning.

Six ancestors once said: I have one thing, headless and faceless, nameless and wordless. What is this?

God said: this is the origin of all buddhas and the Buddha nature of all beings.

The Sixth Ancestor doesn't think so, telling you clearly that there is no name, no words and nothing, but you should point out a name (Buddha nature). Isn't that unnecessary? The doctrine of Zen is to absolutely deny the separation in the general sense; Consciousness is not allowed to intervene alone.

In Buddhism, when a Zen master who was praised as knowledgeable, wise and carefree visited Zen master Yaoshan, Yaoshan asked him, "What were the true colors of parents before their death?"

Ji xian Zen master was too surprised to answer, so he burned all his scriptures and went to Nanyang to farm. One day, while he was plowing, his hoe hit a stone and made a loud noise. He had an epiphany. "forget what you know with one blow, practice without disguise." This is why Yaoshan does not use knowledge to teach intellectual leisure. He wants Ji-hyun to let go of all the confusion of knowledge and writing and return to his heart. This kind of detached teaching is unique. This is simply unimaginable in the general intellectual community. This is another feature of Zen.

(3) Zen and life

People are busy all day, for life and food and clothing, but what is this "body"?

The Zen master said, "Who is dragging the dead body?"

This kind of problem is not easy for ordinary people to realize. People have to work hard to get warmth, but also need all kinds of material desires. Material can enrich life, but it often withers the soul; Appetite is satisfied, but it often blocks the wisdom of the moment. People's daily life is moving forward completely under an unconscious consciousness. The standard of good and evil is the decision of society, and there is no real freedom of individual mind; Therefore, people in this era often feel that although they have a material life that their predecessors never dreamed of, they have also lost their most precious spiritual self. This is a human tragedy in modern times. In fact, people are gradually aware of this crisis and have envisaged many remedial measures. Social philosophers have also put forward improved schemes. Although they improved some of them, they didn't seem to help the flood.

Zen, a wonderful thing, once it plays a role in life, is lively and natural, full of energy, and can reverse the flagging will of modern human life.

Zen does not abandon its interest in life. To be exact, it transcends these five desires and six dusts in an attempt to achieve more realistic harmony and silence. He wears the same clothes and eats the same food. "He is willful and carefree, but he can do whatever he wants. There is no divine solution." If a monk asked the Zen master in Zhaozhou, Zhaozhou replied, "Tea!" Eating, washing dishes and sweeping the floor are nothing more than Tao. If you can get it, you can rest assured now. Why bother? Fans talk, wise men do, and connect with the saints all the way up. Zen is not something we can talk about and learn. Zen has improved our lives. With Zen, we will have a rich life!

(D) Zen and nature

What is Zen? Zen is natural, Zen and nature exist together, and Zen hides nothing. What is Tao? "The cloud is in the blue sky, and the water is in the bottle", "The green bamboo is just ordinary, and the gloomy yellow flower is wonderful". From the perspective of discerning people, everything on the earth is a Zen machine. Before enlightenment, mountains were mountains and water was water. After enlightenment, see mountains or mountains, see water or water. However, the landscape content before and after the Enlightenment was different. After enlightenment, the mountains and rivers are with me and integrated with me, and I can take them at will. Things are integrated with me and are barrier-free to each other. How detached this Zen mind is.

"I occasionally come to pine trees and sleep on high pillows. There is no calendar day in the mountains, and I don't know the year of cold and heat"; "The sound of the stream is full of long tongues, and the mountains are nothing more than clean bodies." Where to look is a Zen machine; Most people mistakenly think that Zen is mysterious, unfathomable and unattainable. This is the Zen feeling of the door. In fact, Zen is its own scenery, full of nature and can be seen everywhere.

However, today's human beings are in opposition to nature. Man has destroyed the balance and vitality of nature. Everything presented to the world is the mechanical manipulation of man-made obstacles, leading to rigidity and mechanization. How can we live in such a harmonious way, how can we not feel empty and make mental troubles painful? "Zen" is like a clear spring in the mountains, which can wash away the dust of the soul; He is like a white cloud in the sky, you can wander and let it go.

(5) Zen and humor

The enlightened Zen master is not the lifeless and dying old monk we imagined, but a real Zen master with a funny life and a stronger sense of humor. In their minds, the earth is full of vitality, all beings have Buddha nature, and everything is so lively and natural. So it adapts randomly up and down, moistening the world like spring rain; Sometimes magnificent. Sometimes it is humor, which is the characteristic of Zen enlightenment.

A mysterious monk in Wenzhou, visiting Zen master Xuefeng. Xuefeng asked her:

Where did it come from?

From Dali Mountain.

Not even sunrise?

If the sun rises, the snow peaks here will melt ahead of time. This means that if I am enlightened, my fame will be covered up by Zen master Xuefeng, so I don't need to ask you for advice. )

Xuefeng asked again, What's your name?

Mysterious!

Japanese knitting geometry?

Not an inch!

Xuefeng thought, do you really have this ability? Freely said:

Your cassock has mopped the floor!

Mystery suddenly look back at this moment, xuefeng laughed and said:

What a naked man!

Eunuch Yu Chaoen was in power. One day, he asked Master Yaoshan: "In Pumenpin, it is said that the black wind blew his boat and fell into the ghost land of Luo Cha. What is the black wind? "

The Zen master didn't answer directly, but called rudely, "Yu Chaoen! You idiot, why do you ask this? " Yu Chaoen was furious and was about to get angry. Master Yaoshan smiled and said, "This is his boat blown by the black wind!"

Zen master Ling Zhen visited Zen master Gui Zong and asked, "How is the Buddha?"

The Zen master who returned to the Sect said: "If I don't tell you, you don't believe it; If you believe me, just tell me! "

Then tell him softly, "You are!"

How humorous these means of Honghua teaching are!

To learn Zen, you must be savvy and dexterous. To be clear, you must have a sense of humor! There was not a Zen master in ancient times who was not a master of humor. How vivid Zen in humor is! How sharp Zen is!

Meditation

The above is just a brief introduction to the history and content characteristics of Zen. Now I will further tell you how Zen practices Buddhism.

The ancient Zen master's great drink was to teach Zen; Zen people smile, which is also the theory of Zen; A day without doing anything, a day without eating. This is meditation, Zhaozhou is 80 feet. This is meditation. These typical examples have left great inspiration for future generations. Now I will tell you a few points and give you a brief introduction.

(1) ask questions

Most religions in the world attach the most importance to faith, and we can't pursue doctrines with suspicion, but the first thing to mention when introducing Zen is doubt. Zen, in particular, requires great doubts to realize. If there is no doubt, it is equivalent to eating all day, without any intention, and there will never be enlightenment. "How did ancestors come from the West?" "What was the true face of parents before their death?" "All laws belong to one, and where does one belong?" "Who is chanting Buddha?" ..... These questions are not about people who study Zen looking for information to write papers, but about the doubts of Zen Hezi.

Go on with your research.

After doubts arise, we should further cultivate them with our heart. The so-called fan sits still, and the wise work hard. The intention is to participate in meditation wholeheartedly at any time and place, not while meditating. If you keep asking, you will suddenly realize that this state of enlightenment can be described? It's hard. I can only tell you: "You will know when you drink water."

(3) Human mechanics

Originally, Zen was unspeakable, and it was a realm of broken words and spiritual destruction. I have said a lot here today, which is suspected of gilding the lily. In fact, the most direct way of Zen is to practice from life and find a place to live. Then, a finger, a kiss, getting on the seat and getting off the seat are all Zen. Ladies and gentlemen, if you want to ask what Zen is again, I will tell you: "Go to sleep!" " "Do you understand? Don't understand! Don't understand! Ginseng!

China Zen and Laozi and Zhuangzi

Hu Shi once said: "China's Zen is not from Indian yoga or Zen, on the contrary, it is a revolution of yoga or Zen." Suzuki Teitaro Daisetz once said, "The Zen we are talking about today cannot be found in India." He thinks that China people's epiphany on Zen interpretation is an original idea, which also proves that China people are unwilling to absorb Indian Buddhism in one gulp. He said: "China people's imagination with practical spirit created Zen, which made them feel the greatest satisfaction in saving." The formation of Zen was first promoted by Mahayana Buddhism. Due to the promotion of Mahayana Buddhism, Laozi and Zhuangzi's thorough view was revived and developed in the form of Zen. Thomas Merton once said: "It was the Zen master in the Tang Dynasty who really inherited the influence of Zhuangzi Thought." It can be said that the most fundamental insights of Zen masters are consistent with those of Laozi and Zhuangzi, and the first and second chapters of Tao Te Ching reveal the metaphysical basis of Zen. As for the relationship between Zen and Zhuangzi, Suzuki Teitaro Daisetz made a clear analysis. He said: "The most obvious feature of the Zen master is to emphasize the inner self-testimony. This kind of self-testimony is exactly the same as Zhuangzi's forgetfulness, Xinzhai and Chaochi. " The original meaning of the word "sit and forget" can be said to be sitting and forgetting, or sinking into the realm of forgetting. This kind of forgetting covers a wide range, including forgetting yourself and forgetting things. The following is a story about Zhuangzi's forgetfulness: once, Yan Hui told Confucius that his kung fu had made great progress and he had forgotten benevolence and righteousness, but Confucius thought that he was not profound enough. A few days later, he told Confucius that he had forgotten the rites and music, but Confucius still refused to recognize it. After a while, he told Confucius that he had forgotten. Even Confucius doesn't know this realm. When he asked Yan Hui, Yan Hui explained, "You'll be smart if you break your limbs. You won't know until you leave, just like Datong. This is called forgetting. " There is a "fast" in a conversation between Confucius and Yan Hui in "The Life of Zhuangzi". It is said that Yan Hui once went to the countryside to lobby, and Confucius threw cold water on him, thinking that he had not reached the realm of purity and chaos. If we rashly remonstrate, it would be not only useless, but harmful, so Yan Hui asked Confucius for advice. Confucius told him to be "wary" and said, "If you are determined, don't listen, but listen attentively." Angry people, empty people, treat things, only the Tao is empty, and empty people are fasting. "'detachment' is a realm of Taoist practice, and Zhuangzi once described a story about detachment. Once, someone asked Nuluo why he was so old, but his appearance was still as young as a child. Nuluo told him that this is the role of Tao. The man asked the woman again: Can he learn Taoism? Frankly speaking, he is not the material to learn Taoism; Then he talked about how he taught his students to rely on Bu Liang, saying, "With the way of saints, it is easy to know the talents of saints. I still have it, tell it, and then I can go abroad; I have been out of the world, I kept it for seven days, and then I can leave my things outside; It's a foreign thing. If I raise it for nine days, I can be born outside. It has been born outside, and then you can see it; Looking ahead and looking back, you can see independence, see independence, you can have no ancient and modern, no ancient and modern, and you can never die. "We can't deny that Zen masters are all Buddhists, but their preference for Laozi and Zhuangzi's thoughts has influenced them to choose those interests similar to Laozi and Zhuangzi in Buddhism for special development.

Zen language

Look at him.

Hanshan asked Pickup: "Someone slandered me, bullied me, insulted me, laughed at me, despised me, belittled me and deceived me. What should I do? "

Pick him up and say, "bear with him, let him go, avoid him, let him go, bear with him, respect him and ignore him." You will see him in a few years. "

A cup of tea; What you want; It's a piece of cake

Nanyin was a Zen master in Meiji Japan. One day, a university professor came to ask him about Zen, and he only treated him with tea.

He poured tea into the guest's cup until it was full, and then continued to pour tea.

The professor watched helplessly as the tea overflowed the cup until he could no longer remain silent. Finally, he said, "It has overflowed. Don't pour it again!" "

"You are like this cup," Yin Nan replied. "It's full of your own opinions and ideas. How can I tell you Zen if you don't empty your cup first? "

Understanding is like light.

Read Buddhist scriptures.

Disciple asked Buddha, "I can't see the Elysium you mentioned. How can I believe it? "

The Buddha took his disciple to a dark room and told him, "There is a hammer in the corner."

Disciples, whether they stare big or narrow their eyes or can't see their fingers, have to say that I can't see them.

The Buddha lit the candle and there was a hammer in the corner.

What you can't see doesn't exist?

Break the bowl

An old monk had two disciples, a big monk and a little monk.

One day after dinner, the young monk was washing dishes and suddenly broke one of the bowls.

The big monk immediately ran to the old monk's meditation room to make a small report: "Master, I just broke a bowl."

The old monk twisted the beads in his hand, closed his eyes slightly and said, "I believe you will never break the bowl!" " "

Make dust

Shen Xiu said: "I look like a bodhi tree, and my heart is like a mirror;" Wipe frequently, and don't create dust. "

Hui Nengyun: "Bodhi has no trees, and the mirror is not a stage; There was nothing, where did the dust come from? "

gift

A Zen master met a man who didn't like him on his trip. For several days, the man tried every means to slander him.

Finally, the Zen master turned to the man and asked, "If someone gives you a gift and you refuse to accept it, who does it belong to?"

The man replied, "It belongs to the original gift giver."

The Zen master smiled and said, "That's right. If I don't accept your abuse, then you are cursing yourself. "

lie down

Two Buddhists were walking on a muddy road. When I walked to a shoal, I saw a beautiful girl hesitating there. Because she is wearing a ribbon, she can't cross the shoal.

"Come on, little girl, I'll carry you." Brother said, putting the girl on his back. After crossing the shoal, he put the little girl down and then moved on with his brother.

The younger brother followed his brother, unhappy all the way, but silent. In the evening, after staying in the temple, he couldn't help it. He said to his brother, "We monks should observe the precepts and don't get close to women. Why did you carry that woman across the river today? "

"ah! You're talking about that woman! I put her down a long time ago. Do you still care about her? "
