Methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE), the raw material of methanol isobutylene, is combined with its catalyst through acidic catalyst. The sources of industrial resin catalyst and isobutylene are the same:-C4 fraction from cracking to ethylene-C4 fraction from catalytic cracking unit in refinery for isomerization dehydrogenation to MTBE catalyst:-hydrofluoric acid-sulfuric acid-styrene cation exchange resin-solid acid-molecular sieve.
