Lagging behind will be beaten, and a backward, poor and weak country will be beaten! This is a bloody and profound lesson drawn from summing up the history of modern China. Throughout the 5,000-year history of China, the recent history of China, which is not far from us, can best prove this conclusion. Two Opium Wars, Eight-Nation Alliance burning Yuanmingyuan and War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression are the most typical examples.

1In the 1940s, the empire armed to the teeth began to accumulate primitive capital. The British opened our country with their guns, and tortured the spirit and body of China people with the opium business. Opium has caused countless families to break up. With the awakening of the Chinese people, a vigorous anti-smoking movement began, and the British gnashed their teeth. Then they used their advanced military equipment to invade China twice, forcing the Great Qing Dynasty to surrender and sign unequal agreements. Although China's soldiers and civilians fought bravely against the enemy, they sadly lost the war because of the huge gap in weapons and equipment.

The failure of the Opium War prompted China people to change their ideas and open their eyes to the world. This war also promoted the germination and development of Chinese national capitalism. Due to the influence of war and rulers' policies, emerging capitalism failed to become the mainstream. China is still in a poor and backward position, so after both sides lost in World War I, foreign powers pounced on China. This is the infamous incident of Eight-Nation Alliance burning Yuanmingyuan, which nailed the people of China to the shame column.

On the other hand, Japan, which is in Asia with China, was closed to the outside world like China at first. After being bombarded by American ships, it was forced to sign unequal treaties with many countries. However, after the Japanese overthrew the Tokugawa era for the Meiji Restoration, capitalism developed rapidly and its national strength increased day by day, and it soon became an emerging power. Japan jumped from an invaded country to a capitalist country that invaded other countries, but China was still in a backward state in modern times, which led to being invaded by Japan that was inferior to itself and falling into a tragic situation. This tragedy once again shows that backwardness will lead to beatings.

Now, with the efforts of the the Communist Party of China (CPC) government and the people of the whole country, the comprehensive national strength of our new China has been greatly improved, and it has become the second largest economy in the world, and its national defense military strength is also very important in the world. Therefore, only when a country develops with all its strength, constantly strives for self-improvement and strengthens its national strength can it be free from being subject to others and being beaten.
