How strong is the study and work intensity of foreign famous schools?
How strong is the study and work of doctoral students in famous foreign universities? I didn't study for a doctorate abroad, so I have no say in this issue. But according to my understanding of graduate students, it is really hard, and the intensity far exceeds that of domestic schools. I believe that everyone who has attended an American university will have the same experience as me. I remember when I was studying at Columbia University, I got up at 8: 00 every morning and stayed in the library until/kloc-0: 00 at night. Weekends were also full. It's not that I study hard, but that there is so much homework that you hardly have time to breathe. Take one of our main courses as an example. We have classes for three hours three times a week. After each class, the professor will upload the reading materials of the day on the school intranet. These materials are the papers and documents she found in various databases, as well as the books scanned in the library (for educational purposes, American intellectual property law allows, but not for other purposes), usually PDF documents, which we download ourselves and print for free in the library. Every time I have to print hundreds of A4 sheets (double-sided printing), I occasionally find that there are only 60 or 70 sheets of materials today, which is a lot easier at once. Don't forget that this is not a casual magazine. The contents are all boring and difficult academic papers, and they are usually densely typeset, with few pictures and texts. Do you think it's over just reading these materials? Not exactly. Before the start of school, the professor has sent an email to each student, listing the reading list for the whole semester. There are more than 30 books, all of which are academic books. Students are required to go to the bookstore to buy them themselves, and one or two books will be discussed in class every week. As for unified textbooks, there is no such thing. In addition, I have to write two articles every week, and I have to take time out to prepare the papers to be handed in before graduation.
