Abstract: At present, the sketch teaching of art in colleges and universities generally includes sketch and design sketch. Painting majors usually attach importance to drawing sketches; Art design majors pay more attention to design sketches. The author of this paper tries to analyze the similarities and differences between them in modeling thinking and modeling methods. Talk about my own teaching experience.

Sketch and design sketch are both important parts of basic art teaching. The embryonic form and embryo of painting sketch were generally formed in the Renaissance and introduced to China at the beginning of last century. As a basic course of painting art, it focuses on texture, light and shade, sense of space, and treatment of reality and falsehood. It attaches great importance to the study of the basic laws of modeling, analyzes and depicts objective images, and cultivates students' abilities of observation, analysis, expression, creation and induction through practical training. Design sketch is relatively young and was introduced to China in 1980s. Design sketch is the training foundation of modern design, emphasizing the training of practical skills and the cultivation of thinking ability. It is the language and means for designers to collect image data, express modeling creativity and communicate design schemes. Design sketch can be divided into structure sketch and performance sketch. It is an important basis for graphic design, product design, environmental design and multimedia comprehensive design.
On modeling thinking
Because of the differences between painting sketch and design sketch in modeling function and goal orientation, their thinking modes are also different in process and content in specific modeling thinking activities. That is, the differences between them in thinking mode, goal orientation and modeling concept.
Sketch sketch focuses on the cultivation of students' artistic expression ability, aesthetic judgment ability and creative thinking ability. There is not much difference between its thinking mode and design sketch in essence. Sketch and design sketch, their modeling thinking process starts from sensibility and gradually extends to rational knowledge, and both follow the basic cognitive laws of feeling, analysis, understanding and synthesis. It is very important to realize this point, because it is not only related to the thinking coherence of the smooth transition from painting sketch to design sketch, but also can fundamentally ensure that design sketch is the essential requirement of sketch. As we know, in the modeling process of painting sketch, it is usually based on sensibility, and the intuitive feeling of the image is developed through rational channels. Perception and rational thinking are closely combined and operate alternately. In contrast, the modeling thinking mode of design sketch should first be based on perceptual thinking. The role of thinking in images in the initial stage allows students to fully imagine the possibilities and final effects of picture expression. Especially in performance sketches, creative exploration of picture form and image is often emphasized. If it is controlled in logical thinking too early, it will inevitably limit the expressive force of picture form and modeling. Even in structure sketch, where rational thinking is dominant, we should advocate following the basic cognitive laws of feeling, analysis, understanding and synthesis. Only in this way can the expressive force of modeling have the characteristics of painting, thus effectively avoiding turning structure sketch into an effect drawing. Therefore, whether drawing or designing sketches, students' thinking should not be restricted too much before emphasizing the reasoning, logic and sequence of thinking. It is necessary to encourage people to observe things in a brand-new way, but also to encourage imaginative and expressive homework, which is exactly in line with the' way of thinking' needed by various artistic disciplines.
On modeling methods
Sketching often requires students to apply the visual principle of spatial perspective in two-dimensional plane space, with the main purpose of reproducing the visual artistic effect of three-dimensional pictures. Sketching is mainly to cultivate and exercise students' ability to understand and express objective images, emphasizing the dialectical relationship between cognition and expression. With the development of contemporary art teaching, people begin to pay attention to absorbing nutrition from other art disciplines, connecting abstract elements in concrete modeling, deformation elements in realistic modeling and two-dimensional elements in three-dimensional modeling, and paying attention to cultivating students' design consciousness and creative consciousness. This is of positive significance to expand students' professional awareness and aesthetic taste.
Design sketch is directly connected with design, and its specific requirements not only make design sketch rigorous and standardized, meet the needs of design discipline, but also truly reflect the independence of design sketch itself. Design sketch can be divided into structure sketch and performance sketch. Through the training of structural analysis sketch, structure sketch cultivated students' cognitive form of nature and the concept of structural analysis, and devoted himself to analyzing the structure of objects and images in order to deeply feel the space. In the all-round examination of the object image, we strive to go beyond the appearance of the object image to understand its internal structure, and further generate design ideas through the inspiration of the structure. Structural analysis training should make students strive to eliminate the influence of light and shade, texture and other non-structures. They should be able to rationally reason and express the invisible but real, logical, perspective and physical internal structure, fully consider the combination and separation relationship between local and whole objects, and express the essential factors such as the proportion, outline and structural transition of objects. It is also necessary for students to study the expressive force of the virtual and real lines in the picture and the tension of structural factors, so as to cultivate students' keen sense and rational reasoning ability.
Whether it is painting sketch or design sketch, the teaching innovation in modeling method is a kind of perception to grasp the potential change of prototype and create a new image with profound significance through the modeling evolution in the process of design sketch.

As an important basic course of visual design art, the teaching of sketch and design sketch is often one of the design art teaching courses that students first contact with. The study of many important basic topics will inevitably affect students' future artistic outlook. Establish a comprehensive and systematic teaching and training mode that meets the needs of the discipline, open the thinking channel of smooth transition from painting sketch to design sketch in teaching concept and content, clarify their respective focuses in teaching methods and practice, and innovate teaching concepts and teaching content. Only in this way can we really improve the basic role in sketch teaching.
