Finally, our results may come from the particularity of the United States in the 1980s. At present, our method of measuring dependence should be suitable for countries with less financial restrictions (which is why we look at demand rather than supply). Apart from the United States, the only country where we have detailed information about capital flows is Canada. Canada is quite different from the United States in many important indicators. Its banking system is more owned by enterprise entities, and its industrial system is also different from that of the United States. However, the correlation between the two countries' dependence indicators reached 0.77. As shown in the third column of Table 7, the coefficient factor is very important when measuring correlation with Canadian data. What is particularly interesting is that both tables 7 and 4 show that although the measures of dependence and development are different, the economic quantities that affect each other are basically the same.
