When publishing a paper, I hope that the abstract and the main text use different page numbers. I didn't expect such a simple operation to make me toss and turn all night, but I still didn't get it out, mainly because the word software was too strange. In retrospect, it was still a little difficult to operate, but it was finally worked out. Next, I will bring you a schematic diagram of how word sets two page numbers, hoping to help you.

This is a Word file with 5 pages in total. Now I'm going to make the first three pages continuous, counting from the fourth page and counting from the first page, which means that the first three pages and the last two pages are inserted with page numbers respectively. How to operate?

On the page layout tab, find the drop-down triangle next to the separator, and you can see that there are two types of page breaks and section break:

Page break: a page in Word is divided into two pages at the mouse position, which does not affect the continuity of the whole document;

Section break: Divide the whole Word document into two parts and insert different page numbers;

Obviously, what we need is group discussion. The words "next page" and "continuous page" are easy to understand. We choose to insert section break from the next page, so that the first three pages and the last two pages are two parts.

In this way, section break was successfully added, and the word document itself did not change. If we want to see segmentation, we can do it. On the View tab, in the Document View group, select Normal View, and we can see section break.

Switch to page view again, and you won't see section break. Place the mouse on the first page, select Page Number in the Header and Footer group of the Insert tab, and then select Insert at the top of the page.

At this time, we found that the pages are actually continuous. It doesn't matter. Move the mouse to the fourth page, find the page number option again, and select "Format Page Number" in the drop-down triangle option.

The page number format window pops up. In the page number format option, do not check "Continue to the previous section", just select the starting page number.
