How far is the road to gender equality?
When it comes to equality between men and women, it is also a question of China people winning face in the world. After all, the equality between men and women in China has been deeply rooted in people's hearts for so many years, and many men are shouting: When can the men's team be established? Speaking of which, there is another interesting thing. It is said that a Canadian institution funded a project on gender equality in China. Once, a Canadian female judge gave a lecture on gender equality to judges (mostly men) in China, but only heard an uproar from the audience. The lady was very puzzled and asked the translator what was going on. The translator showed her the judge's comments: The judge in China thinks that China should go abroad to talk about gender equality. Very impressive. I just don't know what this Canadian lady will think. So, does China really surpass other countries in the pace of gender equality? From the legal point of view, China's laws are really perfect, and many foreigners admire them. In the 1950s, the Constitution stipulated equality between men and women, and China also enacted the Law on the Protection of Women's Rights and Interests. What other laws on maternal and child health care, population and family planning are enough to protect women? How can there be a law that treats men so well? Indeed, the law is very busy and good, but this is just a painted cake. Who has seen a lawsuit against the Constitution? It is said that the Law on the Protection of Women's Rights and Interests has never been applied in court. The provisions of these laws are too principled and, like many other legal provisions, inoperable. However, many foreign laws can be used to protect their rights and interests, such as equal opportunity law and employment equality law in many countries. The parties concerned can bring a lawsuit against gender discrimination and get corresponding protection and compensation. China's maternal and child health care law and population and family planning law protect women as mothers and policy targets, not as independent individuals. When it comes to the protection of women's personal rights as human beings, many countries have laws against domestic violence and sexual harassment, but in China, I don't know how long it will take for these laws to be promulgated. Looking at reality, China women who have always been proud of the authorities have become a mirror that shames the authorities. 1994 World ranking of the proportion of women deputies to the National People's Congress of China 12. As we all know, it is actually the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, not the NPC deputies, and the proportion of female members of the Standing Committee in China is even lower. However, the ranking from 12 is still impressive enough. However, after 10, the ranking has dropped to 48th. I wonder how the national leaders feel when they see this figure? Too far away from the status of a big country, they will feel humiliated. From the perspective of employment, the employment rate of women in China has always been high, but it is not without problems. Embarrassment and discrimination encountered by female college graduates when looking for jobs have made many girls resentful about why they were born women, not to mention that there are more laid-off women workers than men, nurses are mostly women, doctors are mostly men, and women have to suffer more sexual harassment in the workplace. There is also the issue of individual rights. It is difficult for women to effectively protect themselves from domestic violence and sexual harassment due to the lack of corresponding legal and institutional guarantees. Having said that, many people will say, what should a wife do if she beats her husband? What about women sexually harassing men? This is not worth refuting. Ask any person on the street how many women have been sexually harassed and how many men have been victimized? China women's position in the family is the most meaningful. It is said that a former national leader visited Canada. When asked about gender equality in China, he said humorously, "China is already very gender-equal. You see, my salary is given to my wife. " . This sentence was passed down as a laughing stock for a while. But this understanding is actually similar to many people's views, and it is also the basis for thinking that China has achieved equality between men and women. There is no doubt that women's position and decision-making power in the family in China have improved, but from the perspective of gender division of labor, they still follow the traditional gender division of labor of "men are the masters outside and women are the masters inside". A woman is still my wife and a man's wife, just like the wife of the leader just now. She can manage her husband's salary, but can she be a national leader? Can she decide the major policies of the country? There are many such examples. Wives produce things and husbands sell things. The wife is the general manager and the husband is the chairman, although the wife is more capable than the husband. Although the wife is more capable, the husband must be the breadwinner, which reflects the gender division of labor in the family. Another related issue is the understanding of gender equality. Times are different, men and women are the same, and women can do what men can do. This sentence summarizes our long-standing understanding of equality between men and women, that is, taking men as the standard and making women look like men. This is actually one-sided. We know that as long as people, both men and women, live in this social and cultural environment, if culture restricts the development of one gender, it will inevitably restrict the development of another gender. This society requires women to be gentle and beautiful, weak and obedient, and men to be strong and capable, to conquer and support their families. But not all women are beautiful, gentle and obedient, and not all men are capable, strong and like to conquer, and can support their families, so men and women are equally stressed. The wife is too capable, the husband wants a divorce, and the man who can't afford to support his family is considered a very timid man. The man who likes to keep a house is called a mother-in-law and unmanly, which shows that men are no less bound than women. From the perspective of people's all-round development, equality between men and women should not only make women equal to men, but also break the gender role division that binds the development of both sexes, so that everyone can get the opportunity of free development. So in this sense, gender equality is more appropriate than gender equality ~
