Most of the drugs for relieving exterior syndrome are Xin San products, all of which have the effect of sweating and relieving exterior syndrome, and are mainly used to treat exterior syndrome caused by exogenous pathogens.

(1) Dispelling wind-cold and pungent-warm, mainly dispelling wind-cold, which is suitable for exterior syndrome of wind-cold with severe aversion to cold, fever and no sweat, head and body pain, nasal congestion and runny nose, thin and white fur and tight pulse. Commonly used drugs include Herba Ephedrae, Ramulus Cinnamomi, Herba Schizonepetae, Radix Saposhnikoviae, Asari, Perillae, Notopterygii Rhizoma, Radix Angelicae Dahuricae, ginger, etc.

(2) Dispelling wind-heat and pungent cool, mainly dispersing wind-heat, is suitable for high fever, slight aversion to cold, headache, sore throat, thirst, red tongue tip, thin yellow fur and floating pulse with wind-heat exterior syndrome. Commonly used drugs are mint, burdock, mulberry leaf, chrysanthemum, kudzu root, Bupleurum root, Cimicifuga rhizome, cicada slough and so on.
