Endnotes are generally located at the end of the document, listing the source of quotations, etc. In fact, it is the reference of the paper.
Footnotes and endnotes are composed of two related parts, including annotation reference marks and their corresponding annotation texts. Users can have Word automatically number labels or create custom labels. When you add, delete, or move automatically numbered annotations, Word renumbers the annotation reference marks.
To insert footnotes and endnotes, follow these steps:
(1) Move the insertion to the position where you want to insert footnotes and endnotes.
(2) Click Footnotes and Endnotes in the Insert menu to open the Footnotes and Endnotes dialog box, as shown in Figure 6-27.
(3) Select the footnote option to insert a footnote; If you want to insert an endnote, select the endnote option.
(4) If the "automatic numbering" option is selected, Word will continuously number all footnotes or endnotes, and renumber them when adding, deleting or moving footnote or endnote reference marks.
(5) If you want to customize the reference mark of a footnote or endnote, you can select the custom mark, and then enter the reference mark as a footnote or endnote in the text box below. If there is no such symbol on the keyboard, you can click the Symbol button and select an appropriate symbol from the Symbol dialog box as a footnote or endnote.
(6) Click OK to start inputting footnotes or endnotes. Depending on the document view, the way to enter footnote or endnote text will be different.
