Xinyang Teachers College was founded in 1975, formerly known as Kaifeng Teachers College Xinyang Branch (now Henan University). On 1978, it was approved by the State Council and changed to its current name. Mr Fei Xiaotong, former vice chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee (NPCSC), a famous social activist and educator, praised him as "the cradle of teachers".
