Marryat Ji was the first critic in Latin America to accept Marxist thought. He tried to study literature from the perspective of historical materialism. The main work, Seven Papers on the Present Situation of Peru (1928), is an important document to study the reality of Peru and even Latin America. Among them, two papers, Indian Issues and Land Issues, put forward famous indigenous theories, which laid the foundation for the development of indigenous Indian literature in Latin America.
