Cao Xuetao, president of Nankai University and academician of China Academy of Engineering, was exposed that many papers were suspected of fraud. More than 60 papers with abnormal images and authors' signatures, including Cao Xuetao, can be retrieved from the website of PubPeer, a scientific forum. Seven authors have responded to the query, among which three authors admit that there is misuse of pictures, and four authors have explained them through original pictures, some of which have been recognized by skeptics.

Everyone hates academic corruption such as plagiarism, possession of other people's research results, or forgery and modification of research data. Academic fraud is first of all a violation of academic ethics and scientific spirit, and it is the product of impetuous and quick success in the academic field.

Why is this happening? Because of the impetuous academic environment, some people are unbalanced in the face of fame and fortune temptation, and some supervision systems are seriously lacking, which opens the door for them; In addition, in order to compete for rankings, it is generally difficult for schools to effectively audit scientific research projects and researchers. The industrialization of higher education emphasizes quantity, not quality, and quantifies academic and scientific research management; Some people think that it is caused by academic impetuousness in colleges and universities, blindly raising standards and blindly positioning; Others think it is the lack of system in China University. These analyses are not unreasonable, but also point out many problems existing in Chinese universities. However, whether it is the lack of system, academic impetuousness or educational industrialization, it is only the external cause of academic fraud, and the fundamental reason is actually the lack of university spirit. It is not a desirable and normal goal to work hard on scientific research in order to win some prizes. The phenomenon of this disclosure is plagiarism and patchwork of papers, and the purpose is also very clear. It is entirely for publishing papers, striving for personal fame and fortune, and evaluating higher professional titles. This purpose can be said to be very bad.

Should academic fraud be severely punished? The state subsidizes scientific research. Academic fraud is undoubtedly a waste of scientific research funds and resources, and it is also a waste of the country, which will undermine social atmosphere and social fairness and justice. Some people's opportunism will inevitably lead to unfair treatment of others. Copying for decades and stealing once will gradually form unhealthy trends. Judging from the current academic operation, no matter through tedious and time-consuming investigation and start-up procedures, withdrawal or warning announcement, or compensation and control of the damage caused by paper fraud, the current practice can not effectively restrain or curb the emergence of paper fraud and the spread of its harm. Controlling academic fraud in colleges and universities calls for us to rebuild and carry forward the spirit of the university. The society expects the academic return to rationality and dignity in colleges and universities, and the reshaping of university spirit.

The real innovation is to do some research content that no one has thought of before. To do such research, we must have our own ideas, ways and methods.
