Home is the harbor where the soul lives and the harbor where the soul is parked; It is our yearning in the wind and rain, and it is the warmth after cold pain. There you can show yourself unabashedly, because at that time you don't have to face a strict boss, a serious teacher and so on, that's all you and your family have!
Economists have different definitions of different people. Since ancient times, hundreds of classic poems have been sung by homesickness. When you are poor, home is a nest, a place to find comfort and warmth; When you are rich, home is your spiritual and material enjoyment. Home is not a space for wealth accumulation, it must contain family affection, a kind of family affection whose blood is thicker than water. But after reading "Home" written by Ba Jin, I have a different definition and feeling of "Home".
At the beginning of "home", there is a vast expanse of snow, flying like floc. Perhaps the cold snow also made Ba Jin feel at a loss. Young people are chickens in golden cages. When you get older, you get tired. I often hit the cage and want to fly out, but I don't want to be tied more tightly. I really escaped and felt the terrible snow outside. But isn't home more terrible? Facing a group of moody people every day, I strongly interfere with everything on you, leaving you without freedom. Ba Jin's Home is full of sadness and helplessness, which also makes us lament. How many beautiful lives have drifted away in this desolate world? Only tears and struggles buried this cold home, this lifeless home! Ba Jin wrote three confused youths: Chueh-hsin, Chueh-min and Chueh-hui in Home. They grew up in wartime, but they long for real freedom.
As the eldest son, Brother Chueh-hsin always takes "non-resistance" to maintain this big family with four generations living under one roof. He had a wonderful love affair with his cousin Mei, but in this big feudal family, they couldn't help their choice of marriage. His father kissed him, but he didn't resist, only silently accepted everything his father arranged for him. Although his heart was very painful, he dared not say a word "no", so he married his wife Rui Yu. After her grandfather died, Mrs. Chen refused to let Ruiyu have a baby at home on the grounds of "blood shortage" and asked Chueh-hsin to send her out of the city. But he accepted, and as a result, feudal superstition swallowed her life. Before that, his cousin Mei died of depression. However, for all these tragedies, he was powerless to resist and was willing to continue to live an "old-fashioned" life painfully. In this family, he is a cowardly and controlling Woodenhead. He once told his younger brothers and sisters with tears that he was helpless at home, but in front of his elders, he was a good boy who succumbed to "filial piety". His life never seems to have resistance. All he knows is obedience and patience. In the end, he lost all his happiness. He was forced to marry someone he didn't like, succumbed to feudal superstition and watched his wife die. He can only keep an empty body and look at the world alone. The second brother Chueh-min dared to confront his grandfather and even ran away from home. He is a rebel at home and a hero in the eyes of his younger brother. He has progressive thoughts, but sometimes he is not firm, which is between conservative and progressive. However, this is the case. With the help of his eldest brother and third brother, he won the favor of Qin, a self-confident new woman. It can be said that Chueh-min is the luckiest one in the family. Third brother Chueh-hui seems to be a peaceful person, but he has pain and helplessness that others can't detect. Although he is not weak, he dare not confront his grandfather. He is a dreamer. Because of the cruelty of reality, he watched his beloved maid Ming-feng refuse to marry and commit suicide, so he had to let his dreams wash away his pain ... maybe he was tired or bored. Faced with false people and things, he really couldn't stand it, and finally fled alone. Home also focuses on several unfortunate female images & Mei, Mingfeng and Jui-chueh. Although these three women have different personalities-Mei is melancholy, Jui-chueh is wise, and Ming-feng is kind but gentle and firm. Their social status is different, but the tragic ending is the same. By describing the tragic experiences of these women, the work further accuses the feudal ethics and morality of persecuting the weak, the innocent and the kind.
Home is a masterpiece of realism with profound thoughts. Through the fierce struggle between the younger generation represented by Chueh Hui and the feudal decadent forces represented by Grandpa Gao, it reflected the social outlook at that time, profoundly exposed the corruption and darkness of feudal society and family system, accused and exposed the evil and cannibalism of big families and old ethics, and revealed its inevitable historical destiny. At the same time, the work also praised the awakening and struggle of young intellectuals with great enthusiasm, and their break with the evil feudal family.
Home is the first novel Riptide Trilogy written by Ba Jin in 1930s. Since the publication of 193 1, it has been attracting readers with its unique anti-feudal brilliance and touching artistic charm, and occupies an important position in the history of modern literature in China. To this day, it still inspires the hearts of many young people in China and abroad.
