This book is the audience theory research of British cultural studies of Birmingham School and the first academic monograph on this subject in the English-speaking world. This is not only the academic combing and research of Birmingham's audience theory, but also the promotion of the audience theory itself, which has theoretical innovation significance. Professor Reina Winter's evaluation: Professor Jin put forward a new materialistic concept about active audience. Through this concept, he tried to prove that if we are not limited to the level of discourse, then the experience and practice of the audience and the real existence of the audience can be properly understood. ..... Jin Huimin has unusual hermeneutic sensitivity, which enables him to open up and show new research directions and theoretical perspectives. (The translation was published in Comparative Literature of ChinaNo. 1 No.20 12) In the current literary theory circle in China, it is rare to directly discuss western hot issues in western languages. In this respect, Mr. Jin Huimin has set an example for contemporary literary critics to actively participate in international academic exchanges. For Mr. Jin, this is the phased achievement of his study of western aesthetics and western literary theory, and it is also the inevitable result of his unremitting pursuit of internationalization for many years. We believe that this is just a good beginning. In the near future, Mr. Jin will publish more and better academic works in foreign languages. "(from Mr. Chen Dingjia's article)
English abstract:
Although there are many retrospective works on cultural studies, so far, no book has been devoted to the historical and theoretical investigation of the relationship between British cultural studies and Birmingham School's active audience theory and its heritage.
However, this book is not only a reconstruction of the theory of active audience, because Jin Huimin initially developed new theoretical insights through critical comments on the classic "coding/decoding" model of S tuart Hall and careful reading of David Morley's pioneering ethnographic audience research. King questioned the positive audience discourse model put forward by Hall and Molly, and expounded a new materialistic audience view facing 2 1 century.
