The main research results focus on the evolution of early life and the research direction of stratigraphic paleontology from late Precambrian to early Cambrian. Since 1982, Professor Li Yong has been engaged in teaching, scientific research and management in the former Xi 'an Institute of Geology (later renamed Xi 'an Institute of Engineering) and now the College of Earth Sciences and Land Resources of Chang 'an University. Professor Li Yong is mainly engaged in the study of paleontology and stratigraphy, especially the study of stratigraphic paleontology from late Precambrian to early Cambrian. It provides very important empirical data for exploring the development and evolution of early life on earth.

He has published more than 40 related academic papers in academic journals at home and abroad, including 4 papers published in Nature and Science magazines in cooperation with his tutor Professor Shu Degan.
