Lawrence is one of the most influential and controversial writers in the history of western literature. There are different opinions about whether he is a feminist writer or a writer who emphasizes male hegemony. Although Lawrence's views on women and women's liberation are constantly changing and developing in his whole writing process, there is no doubt that Lawrence expressed his deep sympathy and concern for women in his works. Based on these understandings, this paper traces the change, development and maturity of Lawrence's concept of women's liberation, trying to have a more comprehensive and complete understanding of Lawrence's so-called feminism. In the first chapter, this paper first briefly reviews the previous studies on Lawrence, and then puts forward the main points of this paper. The author thinks that from the historical reality of gender inequality, Lawrence does have a feminist tendency, but from the whole history of human liberation and development, Lawrence is a humanist writer. He emphasized the liberation of human nature, the harmony and complementarity between men and women and the balance between man and nature. The second chapter, the third chapter and the fourth chapter are the main parts of this paper, which respectively discuss Lawrence's exploration and views on women's issues. In the second chapter, he ruthlessly urged Victorian ethics and religion. Lawrence believes that Victoria's ethics and Puritans' thoughts have seriously suppressed human nature, especially the liberation and development of women, so he put forward the theory of "consanguineous consciousness" to seek the liberation and development of human nature.
