What is the core of product manager?
First, the capability model of PM = core capability+general capability+skill
The "product manager" is not ignorant of UI &;; Interaction &; Programmers like XXX come here to draw pictures, write documents and manage projects ... this job is really not that simple.
I think the competency model of product managers can be roughly divided into three categories: core competency, general competency and skills.
The product manager's core competence has three points:
The difference between a product manager and a technical/design/test/operation/project manager /CEO is that, except for the product manager, all positions do not need to "discover requirements, manage requirements and design complete solutions to meet requirements".
Of course, the product manager should be a supplement to the team, and it also needs: stronger general ability (more demanding than other roles in the team)
Second, the three core competencies of project management
Discover demand
Comprise two steps:
Get inspiration (breadth): it refers to finding a point that may become a demand. The key is to get more information and pay attention to more information.
Dig deep into the demand (depth): The key is to ask deeply based on the inspiration point until the most essential demand, that is, the root of the problem, is found out.
Management requirements
The two levels that determine the demand are "yes or no, first and then";
Know how to judge what to do, what not to do, what to do first, and what to do later.
We should have a longer-term perspective, be able to reject things that are beneficial in the short term and not beneficial in the long term, and be able to leave things until the most appropriate time when the conditions are not ripe in the future.
