In the process of revising papers, problems of format and typesetting often occur. The most troublesome problems are page number setting and page number format.

Today, when I was revising the curriculum for students, I met a problem. The format of the page number in the text is "-1-"; In the generated directory, the page number is also crossed. However, the format requires that the page numbers of the table of contents have no front and back horizontal lines. So there is a question, how to remove the front and back horizontal lines of page numbers in the catalog? The specific steps are as follows:

1. First set the page number of the footer, open the footer header, enter the page number "1" on the first page of the text, and select the number format as "1, 2,3" in the page number format dialog box; Save. Then generate the directory.

2. At this point, the page number generated by the directory has no horizontal line. However, the page number format in the text requires a horizontal line. At this point, just reopen the footer header and manually add a horizontal line to the first page of the text, and subsequent page numbers will be added automatically.

3. In this way, whether the table of contents is regenerated or not, the page numbers of the text are arranged with horizontal lines, but the table of contents is not.

Note: In the page number format setting, do not select "-2-" as the numbering format, because after selecting this format, the page number generated by the directory will have a horizontal line.
