The predecessor of the school is West Point College of Southern Metallurgy College, which was founded by Jiangxi University of Science and Technology (formerly Southern Metallurgy College) and Jiangxi Honglian Industrial Company in April 20001year. In February 2002, it was renamed the School of Applied Science of Southern Metallurgical Institute.

In 2003, the Ministry of Education officially recognized it as an independent college. In May 2004, it was renamed the College of Applied Science of Jiangxi University of Science and Technology.
