Henan University was founded in 19 12 as Henan Preparatory School for Studying in the United States, and its first president was Mr. Lin. After Zhongzhou University, National Kaifeng Sun Yat-sen University and Provincial Henan University, it was upgraded to National Henan University on 1942. 1952 was reorganized, and the headquarters was renamed as Henan Normal University.

Later, after passing through Kaifeng Normal University and Henan Normal University, the name of Henan University was restored on 1984.
