How to choose a topic

Choosing a topic is the first step in writing a thesis. The so-called topic selection is to choose the topic of graduation thesis, that is, to determine the problems to be studied and demonstrated. All other links in thesis writing are around this question to make it be answered and convincing, so careful topic selection is the premise and foundation for the next step. Choosing the right topic is equivalent to completing half of the thesis writing.

1, the principle of topic selection

(1) The value of the selected topic. The topic selection should have certain theoretical value and practical significance, and be instructive and practical. There are two main ways to measure the significance of topic selection.

On the one hand, whether the selected research topic meets the needs of scientific research and social development, whether it is conducive to improving the quality of educational research and whether it can promote the development of college students' academic level. This requires that the topic should have important application value, the scope of the topic should be further broadened according to the research field of the tutor, and it should be practical, targeted and representative.

On the other hand, the selected research topics should be able to test, revise, innovate and develop scientific theories according to the development needs of the research direction, and make breakthroughs and achievements in argumentation, or have important supplements and improvements.

(2) the reality of the topic. The reality of choosing a topic is that it should be scientific. First of all, the guiding ideology and purpose are clear, and the argumentation basis is substantial and reasonable. The scientific nature of the topic selection mainly lies in having certain basis and sufficient scientific evidence to prove the research method, which is the practical basis of topic selection and topic opening. Science is also based on the basic principles of the research field, which is also the theoretical basis of this paper. The theory in the research field will play the role of guiding, standardizing, selecting and explaining the thesis. Without a certain scientific theoretical basis, it is inevitable that the topic selection will have a low starting point and be blind. If the opening argument is unscientific, it will lead to improper research methods and make the practice of the paper fail. The practical basis and theoretical basis in the field of topic selection restrict the whole process of topic selection and affect the direction and level of the paper. The reality of choosing a topic is to proceed from reality and choose those topics that we are interested in and have moderate difficulty. Only when you have a strong interest in a subject can you have the enthusiasm for in-depth research and win the success of paper writing. When choosing a topic with moderate difficulty, there are two tendencies to be overcome:

First, the topic is too wide and too big. Because of the narrow knowledge, insufficient information and weak ability to construct the framework of the paper, the paper will be done very hard, or even give up halfway;

Second, the topic is too conservative. Because of the lack of confidence in their ability to collect information and research, they only choose topics with low scientific research value, which hinders the full application of their knowledge and makes the paper lack academic standards.

(3) Innovation of topic selection. Don't follow others in the article. To write an eye-catching paper, the topic should be unsolved or unsolved by predecessors in this field, so we should be good at exploring the problems studied by predecessors and be innovative and contemporary. To achieve novel topics, there are three types to choose from:

(1) extension, that is, to put the topic on the basis of summarizing and developing the practical achievements and theoretical main heritage in previous related scientific research fields;

(2) supplementary type, that is, supplementary research on minor issues, problems that have not been studied or have not been fully studied in the main research field;

(3) Mixed type, that is, using stones from other mountains to attack jade from my mountain, and using scientific research achievements and knowledge from another discipline and field to open up the field of this discipline. These three methods all need extensive and in-depth literature review and investigation, carefully examine their own actual situation, highly evaluate and analyze the completeness of the theory and the scientific nature of the research methods, and then re-determine their new arguments and new priorities on this basis. The paper is meaningful only if there is a breakthrough and innovation on the original basis.
