Scholars' theory of seeking qi by sound
The theory of "seeking qi by sound" has a long history, which has been expounded by Han Yu, Liu Zongyuan, Su Xun and others. Liu Dakui, a writer of Tongcheng School in Qing Dynasty, put forward the theory of "seeking qi by sound", which had great influence. He said in "My Essays": "The writing is mainly based on God, supplemented by Qi." "Pride, the essence of the text; Syllables, the text is slightly thicker; Text is the thickest part of the text. " "Air is invisible, look at it with syllables; The syllables are not allowed, and the words are accurate. " This passage expounds the relationship between "god" and "syllable". The so-called "god" refers to the charm and momentum embodied in the works, which is a highly artistic embodiment of the writer's spiritual temperament and emotional connotation of the works. The so-called "syllable" refers to language factors such as alternating length, high and low-level sentence patterns, cadence and high and low priorities. "Spirit" needs to be expressed through the external form of "syllable"; Understanding the "spirit" of a poem by pondering the "syllables" of the poem is the so-called "seeking spirit by sound". Liu Dakui further mentioned the specific method of "seeking spirit by sound"-reading aloud. "When I am ripe, my breath is the breath of the ancients, and the syllables of the ancients are all in my throat" (Essay Couple). These views are still instructive today. When the ancients studied ancient poems, they still paid attention to "seeking the spirit with sound" and reading aloud. These methods are more important today. Modern people's life has lost the language atmosphere and cultural environment during the popular period of ancient poetry. If you want to enter the emotional world of the ancients through ancient poems, you must develop the habit of reading aloud. Only through repeated reading can we form a sense of language and reach the realm of induction with the ancients. This state can't be achieved by silent reading. Mr. Zhou said in "Examples: Seeking Spirit by Sound" that although the silent reading of "those who concentrate on meditation can gain enlightenment" is still different from the realm of "the mind is condensed and the heart is in harmony with words" when reading.
