The foreign language department has a strong faculty, complete senior and intermediate titles and reasonable academic structure. There are 55 faculty members, including professors 1 person, 5 associate professors, 8 graduate students and 5 teachers studying in Britain, Australia and other countries. In order to improve the quality of running schools, five foreign teachers have been hired for a long time, and eight visiting professors have been hired from Beijing Foreign Studies University, East China Normal University, Wuhan University, Huazhong Normal University and Xi International Studies University. The Department of Foreign Languages has five teaching and research sections: Comprehensive English Teaching and Research Section, Linguistics Teaching and Research Section, Audio-visual Speaking Teaching and Research Section, British and American Literature Teaching and Research Section, Business English Teaching and Research Section and Applied Japanese Teaching and Research Section. The Department of Foreign Languages has formed its own characteristics through exploration and summary in its teaching work. First, on the basis of doing a good job in professional English education, a number of undergraduate classes were set up in the early 1990s. 1993 co-organized the "trinity" undergraduate class with Hubei Institute of Education, 1996 co-organized the English tutoring class for the self-taught higher education examination with the English department of Wuhan University, and 1998 began to cooperate with the English department. Especially in the past four years, our department has enrolled more than 200 students in the "3+2" mode of Wuhan University and the "0", "2+2" and "3+2" modes of Hubei universities.
The Foreign Languages Department has continuously deepened the teaching reform, changed the concept of running a school, strengthened the teaching management, and steadily improved the teaching quality and running a school. Comprehensive English was rated as an excellent course in provincial universities by Hubei Provincial Department of Education 1997, and was rated as the third provincial excellent course by Hubei Provincial Department of Education in 2002. At present, there are three school-level excellent courses and 1 school-level reform pilot majors, namely, comprehensive English, English audio-visual speaking, English reading and business English.
The Department of Foreign Languages has made outstanding achievements in teaching, scientific research and research, and has edited more than one monograph and textbook 100. More than 500 academic papers were published in academic journals, most of which were published in core journals and reprinted by NPC. There are more than 50 teaching, scientific research and scientific research projects, including more than 20 ministerial and provincial projects.
Existing computer room, audio-visual laboratory, listening control room, voice laboratory, audio-visual database, etc. , as well as modern voice laboratory, multi-functional classroom and multilingual teaching equipment, can fully meet the needs of teaching and greatly improve the teaching environment.
Foreign Language Department is the backbone of English basic education in Shiyan area. Since its establishment, it has trained more than 6,000 qualified applied talents with all-round development in morality, intelligence and physique, sent a large number of qualified English teachers for middle school education in northwest Hubei, and made great contributions to local culture, local economic construction and economic and trade tourism in Shiyan City and Wudang Mountain.
