It is the established policy of army building to continuously recruit young people with high academic qualifications and improve the quality structure of the army. In order to ensure the correct implementation of this policy, in recent years, the military organs have taken active measures such as setting up national defense scholarships, which have received obvious results. (1) At the same time, some college students' national defense awareness is relatively weak and their national defense quality is poor. Some of them still have problems such as unclear motives for joining the army. Knowing the knowledge and willingness of college students to join the army and finding out the existing problems will help to further strengthen the understanding of this issue, and also provide scientific basis for formulating relevant measures, so as to improve the management level of college students' joining the army and correct their outlook on life and world.

The reason for this phenomenon may be related to the development characteristics of college students and the national defense education in schools. The first-year students have just finished military training or are studying military theory courses, and the second-year students have just finished military training, and some of them are still studying military theory courses. They have more opportunities to get in touch with national defense education, which has a deep influence on these two grades. For senior three students, on the one hand, they are at a critical stage of life development. With the growth of age, senior students have more and more opportunities to get in touch with society and their fields are wider and wider. They may pay more attention and interest to professional research, love, job hunting, personal career development planning and so on. On the other hand, after the completion of military training, the most important part of national defense education, colleges and universities no longer attach importance to the improvement and strengthening of college students' national defense awareness. Therefore, the strengthening effect of national defense education on senior students may decline, making their national defense consciousness weak. At present, the country recruits some students from college graduates every year, and the national defense consciousness of senior college students plays an increasingly important role in national defense development. In view of this phenomenon, how to better enhance the national defense consciousness of senior college students has become an urgent problem in national defense education in colleges and universities. The author believes that improving the national defense consciousness of senior students is a step-by-step process, which needs to be strengthened and continued after the military training.

In the eyes of contemporary college students, the behavior of others joining the army has been overshadowed by utilitarianism and realism. Under the condition of market economy, the problems that college students consider are more realistic, which shows that they pay more attention to personal treatment, working environment, professional income and personal value realization. This book is beyond reproach, but when there is a conflict between national interests and personal interests, it is more about personal gains and losses, and lacks the consciousness of actively obeying national interests.

The survey results show that some college students have weak national defense awareness and poor national defense quality. This has become one of the hot issues that college students are generally concerned about.

(2) Family factors Family factors are also important factors affecting college students' willingness to join the army. 78.8% of the respondents said that they must get the consent of their families to join the army. In view of the above factors, in order to improve the national security awareness of college students, it is necessary to improve and adjust the educational means and contents. First of all, recognize the background of social transformation, scientifically adjust the national security education for college students, take the all-round development of college students as the goal, put people first, be close to real life, and strive to improve the effectiveness, attraction and appeal of national security education.
