A few days ago, more than 250 English majors took the thesis exam of Beijing Foreign Studies University. It is understood that the writing and defense of English professional papers are completed through exams. The assessment mainly includes English translation, British and American literature and British social culture. Translation accounts for 20%, and the other two items each account for 40%. Thesis exam will last one day, including translation exam 1 hour, English and American literature and British social culture exam for two and a half hours.

Teacher Chen from Beijing Foreign Affairs Office said that the English major thesis examination is an assessment of candidates' comprehensive ability. Candidates should not only pay attention to the study of general textbooks, but also expand their knowledge and make comprehensive use of what they have learned. The examination results of papers are evaluated according to four grades: excellent, good, passing and failing. Candidates can go through the graduation formalities only if their scores are above (inclusive). If the paper fails, they must retake the exam to get qualified grades. Candidates who take the make-up exam do not need to take the exam again before the next composition exam, but only need to take the exam next time. Candidates who are absent from the exam, like those who apply for the thesis exam for the first time, must re-apply and pay the fee at the specified time in order to complete the thesis exam.

It is also known that the English major thesis examination is held twice a year, and candidates can apply to the municipal self-study examination office after receiving the qualified results of the last course. Candidates who meet the requirements after examination can begin to prepare for the thesis examination, which usually takes 3 months.
