Main research contents:
This thesis mainly studies the humor and satire that can be seen everywhere when several middle-class girls in villages and towns talk about marriage in Pride and Prejudice. The main part of the paper first introduces the background characteristics of humor and irony, so that readers can roughly understand the differences and connections between the two definitions; Then it introduces the application of humor and satire in depicting characters and describing the development of things; Finally, the close relationship between humor and satire embodied in the story and theme expression is expounded in detail. Therefore, this paper makes a tentative analysis of the whole work. Through this part of the discussion, the paper naturally draws the conclusion that the author expresses the most thorough understanding of human nature with carefully chosen language and the most vivid expression of humor and satire, which makes the two writing techniques perfectly fit, but can quietly express the meaning. Pride and Prejudice is undoubtedly an important cornerstone of the tradition of humor and satire in English novels.
abstract:
The use of humor and irony in the novel Pride and Prejudice is very prominent, especially from the subtle psychological perspective and the dialogue between characters to tell the story, which embodies the contradictions between characters and highlights the role of character image characteristics. Through the concrete application of humor and satire in Pride and Prejudice, this paper reveals the feasibility of applying speech act theory to the appreciation of literary works, and also makes us fully realize the effectiveness of applying this theory to the analysis of specific texts.
