Urgent need: Guo Moruo's achievements in linguistics and philology
In the field of philology, his achievements are prominently reflected in the study of ancient philology, especially those of Oracle Bone Inscriptions, Jinwen and Shi Guwen. Guo Moruo studied the history and ancient society of China under the guidance of Marxism, with ancient Chinese characters as tools and Oracle Bone Inscriptions as historical materials. "The expectation of the future society forces us to demand the liquidation of the past society." This is his distinct purpose of learning ancient Chinese characters. Oracle Bone Inscriptions's major works include Research on Ancient Society in China (Dadong Bookstore, 1930), Research on Oracle Inscriptions (photocopied by Dadong Bookstore, 1930), Oracle Bone Inscriptions Collection (Japanese Wenqiutang Bookstore, 1933), and Nazi Compilation in Yin Qi (2000). Among them, The Study of Ancient Society in China is the first book to study the history of China from the perspective of Marxism by using Oracle Bone Inscriptions's materials, which has a great influence in the history circle. The book contains five papers, the third of which, Ancient Society in Oracle Bone Inscriptions, is directly related to Oracle Bone Inscriptions. This paper systematically expounds the development of social economy by using ancient written materials. The Complete Edition of Oracle Bone Inscriptions is a book about the comprehensive selection of Oracle characters and the general interpretation of the editor. This book is compiling and cataloging 929 Oracle bones. According to the content, it is divided into eight categories: branch, number, lineage, astronomical phenomena, food, conquest, travel and miscellaneous editing, with a summary after each category. This is very convenient for readers who study history, archaeology, ancient Chinese and the history of China. There are many original explanations in the book. Among them, 63-word long articles are included, which is the largest in Oracle Bone Inscriptions. Yin Qi Nazi Edition selected and printed 1595 exquisite Oracle bones collected by collector Liu Tizhi, and classified and interpreted them. Together with Oracle Bone Inscriptions's complete compilation, it can help beginners to know Oracle bone inscriptions, understand their meanings and learn the methods of studying ancient Chinese characters. In the study of bronze inscriptions, he first determined the scale of dating artifacts and found the "string rope" that runs through all bronzes, thus establishing a scientific system for this study, which is his outstanding contribution to the study of bronze inscriptions. Jin Wen's main works in Yin and Zhou Dynasties (Dadong Bookstore, Lithography, 193 1) and two-week bibliography research (China Academy of Sciences, 1957) (two-week bibliography) 196 1 year) (including single paper of Jin Wen and five years) Shi Guwen is the earliest stone inscription in China, which was discovered in the early Tang Dynasty. Author of Shi Guwen Studies (Commercial Press, 1939). In addition to studying ancient Chinese characters, Guo Moruo also actively advocated the reform of Chinese characters, supported the pinyin of Chinese characters, and signed the declaration of "Our Opinions on Advocating New Characters", advocating that Chinese characters should be arranged horizontally and vertically, and absorbing the beneficial experience of Japanese Chinese character reform. He also advocated the modern translation of ancient books and devoted himself to the collation of ancient books. Guo Moruo has profound knowledge, wide interests, profound attainments, rigorous scholarship and rich writings all his life, which are included in the Complete Works of Guo Moruo.
