The full name of Huadu Temple Monument is the Inscription of Buddha stupa in Huadu Temple, also known as Huadu Temple, Huadu, Buddha Inscription and Monk. The inscription was written by Li Baiyao, Ou Yangxun Shudan, November 16th, the fifth year of Tang Zhenguan (AD 63 1). This monument was originally located in Zhong Nanshan Buddhist Temple in Chang 'an (now Xi), but it was destroyed in the Song Dynasty.
Huadu Temple Monument is a work of great artistic value in Ou Yangxun's regular script. Its structure is tight, fresh and healthy, and regular script is the most rigorous. Compared with Ou Yangxun's other works, such as The Inscription of Liquan in Jiucheng Palace, the structure of Huadu Temple is more compact, not as loose as Jiucheng Palace.
The legendary experience of Huadu Temple Monument makes its reputation more prominent. In Jie Jin's Wen Yi Collection, the article Sticking to the Monument of Ouyang Lvgeng Huadu Temple reprinted the postscript made by Fan E, a poet in the Song Dynasty, in the early years of Longxing (1 163), and described the relationship between his great-grandfather Fan Yong and this monument. After the Song Dynasty, the original stone records of Huadu Temple Monument were lost in obscurity, but there was a high level of piracy.
Evaluation of works:
1. Artistic value: Huadu Temple Monument shows the superb attainments of Ou Yangxun's calligraphy with its unique artistic style and exquisite skills. The work is rigorous in pen, compact in structure, fine in stippling, full of setbacks at the turning point, strong in square folding and tough in square shoulders. The strokes are symmetrical and steady, but each stroke contains change, not rigidity and monotony.
2. Historical value: Huadu Temple Monument is not only a calligraphy work, but also a historical document. This paper describes the founding process of Huadu Temple and the virtues of monks, praises the Buddhist spirit, and provides valuable information for us to understand the Buddhist culture and historical background in the Tang Dynasty.
3. Cultural value: Huadu Temple is an important part of China traditional culture. Its appearance enriched China's calligraphy art and had a far-reaching influence on China's later calligraphy development. At the same time, it also reflects the social outlook and historical changes of the Tang Dynasty, and provides us with valuable information for understanding that era.
