Grimas sum symbol matrix
"Symbol matrix" is a symbolic analysis model developed by Gremas according to the binary opposition model of Levi Strauss, the founder of French structuralism. He expanded Levi Strauss' simple binary opposition to four elements, making the realization of narrative analysis more perfect.

Symbolic matrix is a rectangular schema composed of four symbolic elements. It is a special symbolic expression different from numerical matrix and cannot participate in symbolic operation. If it wants to participate, it should be transformed into a symbol matrix first.

Theoretical background:

Gremas began to actively study linguistics and semantics in 1960s, and together with other French scholars, he promoted the grand conception of epistemology and methodology foundation of humanities. This idea was first put forward in 1976' s Semiotics and Social Sciences, and then it was systematically put into practice in Semiotics-An Analysis Dictionary of Language Theory (1979) edited by him and Kutai.

Greimas led the study of symbolic linguistics in Paris from 65438 to 0965, which laid the foundation for the semiotics school in Paris, and he himself became the core figure of the Paris school. Later, Gremas began to study and reconstruct Lithuanian mythology, and worked on the basis of the methods of George Dumetzl, Claude Levi-Strauss and Marcel Detian.
