It consists of HDFS and MapReduce computing frameworks, which are the open source implementations of Google's GFS and MapReduce respectively. Hadoop has become a popular massive data processing framework recently because of its ease of use and scalability. The word hadoop comes from the name given to a toy elephant by the son of its inventor.
