As early as 1988, Liu Zongchao put forward a brand-new concept "incremental evolution of information on the earth's surface and global ecological civilization view". During the period of 1996 -2000, he presided over the completion of the key project "Information Value-added Basis of Ecological Civilization and Ecological Ethics" (96AZX022) of China social science in the Ninth Five-Year Plan, and published nearly 20 papers on ecological civilization and ecological industry, more than 50 scientific papers and 3 monographs on ecological civilization. The titles of the books are Ecological Civilization Outlook and the Sustainable Development Trend of China (China Science and Technology Press, version 1997), Ecological Civilization Outlook and Global Resources (Economic Science Press, 2000) and Ecological Civilization Outlook (Xiamen University Press, version 20 10). 4 monographs on ecological agriculture. In these papers and works, the theoretical system of ecological civilization view and ecological agriculture model is constructed relatively completely.

Since 1996, Liu Zongchao has put forward the concept of "management-production-exchange-consumption-separation-reduction-regeneration" in practice and technology, established ecological reduction technology, developed efficient and safe ecological fertilizer, established nearly 20 processing plants all over the country, and promoted the production of ecological fertilizer with crop straw, paper, black mud, domestic sewage and filter mud as raw materials. Popularize the eco-safe planting technology with the application of ecological fertilizer to improve, purify and clean the soil as the technical path; It effectively promoted the development of circular economy in counties and towns. This technology has been listed in the Twelfth Five-Year Plan of rural ecological environment and circular economy construction by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China. So far, with the efforts of Liu Zongchao and his team, a unique eco-agricultural development model has basically taken shape.

In 2000, Liu Zongchao initiated the establishment of Beijing Ecological Civilization Science and Technology Development Center, and in 2003 initiated the establishment of Beijing Ecological Civilization Engineering Research Institute, which was the first research and development institution aiming at building ecological civilization and developing ecological industries. Under the guidance of the concept of ecological civilization, Liu Zongchao has traveled all over the country and held hundreds of lectures on ecological civilization, ecological industry, ecological security, ecological technology, circular economy, low-carbon economy, global climate change, sustainable development and industrial restructuring. Liu Zongchao and his team have planned ecological projects for dozens of counties, cities, towns and enterprises, effectively popularizing the concept of ecological civilization and promoting ecological technology. Beijing Institute of Ecological Civilization Engineering won the first prize of Ford Motor Eco-Civilization Communication Environmental Protection Award in June 2008. In June 2006, Liu Zongchao was awarded the title of academician by the International Academy of Ecological Life Safety for establishing the theoretical system of ecological civilization and ecological agriculture model. 20 12 April, Dr. Liu Zongchao won the fifth Cobb Happiness Award in the United States in recognition of his contribution to the theory of ecological civilization and the establishment of ecological agriculture model. The Cobb Happiness Award is awarded by scholars in the field of world ecology. The top four winners are Liao Xiaoyi, director of the Beijing Global Village Environmental Culture Center, Mark annear, a Canadian eco-economist, Mary Tucker, a professor at Yale University's School of Environment, and Dean Freudenberg, a pioneer of post-modern agriculture and eco-agriculture.

Liu Zongchao organically combined China's traditional culture with modern ecological culture, and made efforts to integrate them. He regards the word "Su" as the root of China's ecological civilization culture, and "Su's family" as the title of China's ecological civilization school, which gives the word "Su" a brand-new ecological meaning. Liu Zongchao is convinced that after several generations' efforts, mankind will enter an ecological and civilized society. China people's unified organic whole cosmology of "heaven and earth are integrated, everything is homologous, ecological civilization and Taoism are natural" will become the mainstream thought of ecological civilization society, and the ecological civilization concept represented by "Su" will also become a world spirit.

Beijing Ecological Civilization Engineering Research Institute announced the establishment of "Liu Zongchao Global Ecological Civilization Award", aiming at rewarding people who have made outstanding contributions to the cause of ecological civilization worldwide.
