Page number setting of word document (how to set different page number formats)
In a Word document, page number is one of the most important elements, which can help readers quickly locate a certain position in the document. But in some cases, we need to set different page number formats, for example, in the paper, the preface is marked with Roman numerals, and the text is marked with Arabic numerals. This article will introduce how to set different page number formats in Word documents.

First, set the page number format of the preface.

1. First, you need to insert a section break in the document to separate the preface and the body. Click the Delimiter button in the Page Layout tab and select the Next Page option.

2. After section break, move the cursor to the first page of the preface. Click the Page Number button on the Insert tab and select Format Page Number from the pop-up menu.

3. In the Format Page Number dialog box, set the page number format to Roman numerals, set the starting page number to "i", and then click OK.

4. The page number in the preface has been set, and the effect can be seen through "page number format preview". At the same time, in the page number area of the text, you can see the word "I", indicating that the page number of the preface has been set successfully.

Second, set the page number format of the body part.

1. On the first page of the body part, click the Page Number button in the Insert tab and select Format Page Number from the pop-up menu.

2. In the Format Page Number dialog box, set the page number format to Arabic numerals, set the starting page number to 1, and then click OK.

3. At this point, the page number of the text has been set. You can see the effect by previewing the page number format.

Third, set the cover page and directory page not to display page numbers.

1. Double-click the left mouse button in the footer area of the cover page and directory page to enter the footer editing mode.

2. In the footer editing mode, select the page number area, click the right mouse button and select the page number format.

3. In the Page Number Format dialog box, set the page number format to None, and then click OK.

4. At this point, the page numbers of the cover page and the table of contents page have been hidden. You can see the effect by previewing the page number format.
