I also read Lydia. The article is included in a collection of European and American horror novels entitled "Uneasy in Burial". I read it twice: the first time I read it for two days, trying to understand the author's writing intention. Finally, I come to the conclusion that this is the phenomenon that the author described that after his wife died, he turned his lover (or first lover) into reality because of his desire for beauty in a trance. After reading it for the second time, I think the author should be trying to express a cruel idea that reality destroys all beautiful things, or that the author is saying that reality is ugly and evil, but at the same time it is indestructible!
This is my personal opinion. As for movies, I'm not sure. If there is a movie, I want to see how the writer and director understand the author's meaning.
